Nov 15, 2018Flowers continues to bloom for Patriots
The latest example being the Patriots’ 31-17 win over Green Bay at Gillette Stadium this past Sunday night when Flowers, who moved around in the defensive line, showed he’s not just living on the edge.Flowers was credited with five tackles, one quarterback hit and half-a-sack (combining with Adrian Clayborn to get to Aaron Rodgers) in the game the numbers actually not doing justice to the havoc he wreaked with the Packers’ offensive line.“He’s just got a good feel for the game,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. “He kind of knows how to play.“He’s a very instinctive guy, has a lot of versatility, really can play anywhere across the line. He’s played every spot for us. He’s played on the center, he’s played on the guard, he’s played on the tackle, he’s played out there on the tight end, he’s played on his feet, he’s played down. He’s played everywhere but off the ball.”McCourty, for one has noticed.“Really good player,” said McCourty. “I think it’s very noticeable when he’s not out there for us. I think his energy … He’s one of the guys that is a technician in everything he does, whether that’s in the run game, in the pass game. He’s versatile in that he can play inside for us, he can play outside, he can stand up on the edge and cover at times.”Heading into Sunday’s game with the Titans in Tennessee, Flowers has been credited with 32 tackles, 2-1/2 sacks, eight quarterback hits and two passes defensed in the eight games he’s played (he missed the Patriots’ 26-10 loss at Detroit ...

Mason's situation is far less complicated, but not much less expensive. Does Belichick hold Mason, who's ascended to become one of the better guards in the NFL in recent years, in the same high regard as he did Logan Mankins? Regardless of how Belichick values Mason as an asset, the reality is he could end up the best player available at his positi...
Nov 2, 2017PATRIOTS NOTEBOOK: Flowers drawing plenty of attention
Atlanta in Super Bowl LI.The 6-foot-2, 265-pounder enters Sunday afternoon’s game with the Los Angeles Chargers at Gillette Stadium with 33 tackles (third on the team), 3 sacks (tied with linebacker Kyle Van Noy for the team lead), 12 quarterbacks hits (tied with end Deatrich Wise Jr. for the team lead), one forced fumble and one pass defensed this season. In last Sunday night’s 23-7 victory over Atlanta, Flowers was front and center again, recording six tackles, one quarterback hit and aiding the fourth-quarter, fourth-down stop on wide receiver Taylor Gabriel with the Falcons perched on the Patriots 1. Penetrating in to the Atlanta backfield, Flowers forced Gabriel into the grasp of Van Noy, who was holding down the edge and took him down for a 5- yard loss.“I saw there wasn’t a running back in the backfield,” Flowers explained, “so it was just Matt Ryan under center and once I felt the motion kind of coming up I just kind of stepped out and continued to get penetration and Kyle made a tremendous awareness play in setting the edge and making the tackle.”The way Van Noy described it, he was merely finishing a job Flowers had started.“Luckily, Trey slowed him down a little bit for me,” he said, “and I took the glory for it.”In the wake of the season-ending pectoral injury linebacker Dont’a High tower suffered in that game, the importance of Flowers’ play on the edge will only increase going forward.Pats at the half: An NFL-best 96-38 (.716) in the first half of the season since Bill Belichick took over as head coach in the year 2000, the Patriots will be looking to close out the first half of the 2017 campaign and head into their bye with a record of 6-2.Denver (85-49, .634), Indianapolis (81-49, .623), Green Bay (80-50, .615) and Pittsburgh (78-51, .605) round out the top five in the league in the first half of the season during that time. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers officially hired Atlanta offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan as their new head coach more than a month after firing Chip Kelly after just one season. The 49ers settled on Shanahan a couple weeks ago but had to wait until after the Falcons played in the Super Bowl to sign him to a contract. Shanahan will be formally introduced at a news conference later this week.Shanahan is the son of two-time Super Bowl winning head coach Mike Shanahan, who also won a title as offensive coordinator in San Francisco in 1994. The younger Shanahan served as a ball boy then but now will be tasked along with new general manager John Lynch with rebuilding a team that just matched the worst record in franchise history with a 2-14 mark, leading to the dismissal of Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke.AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Lt.
