Feola's Flowers reels off impressive victory to take over lead in Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League

TENNERTON – Feola’s Flowers reeled off an impressive 27-13 victory over Custom Cabinets last week to storm from seventh place to take the lead in the Buckhannon Country Club Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League.Going into the final week of the second quarter, Feola’s Flowers has a two-point lead, 89-87, over previous week leader Loudin Insurance, who claimed a 23 ½-16 ½ decision over First Community Bank.First Community Bank plummeted all the way from second to seventh place.Sam’s Pizza remained in third place with a 24-16 triumph over Hank Ellis Insurance, and Highland Landscaping eked out a 21-19 verdict over Lisa Cain-Edward Jones to stay in fourth.Fisher Auto squeezed past High Point Construction by a 20 ½-19 ½ margin to edge from sixth to fifth.Heading into the quarter’s final week, only 9 ½ points separate the top seven teams.Bob Post of Lisa Cain-Edward Jones claimed Low Actual honors with a 36, with First Community Bank’s Lynn Helmick and Kyle Lane of Sam’s Pizza following with 37 and 39, respectively.Post and Bud Mick of Sam’s Pizza shared Low Net laurels at 32, with Highland Landscaping’s Don Nestor carding a 33.The standings, top...

Feola's Flowers takes early lead as Cupp Memorial Golf League begins

TENNERTON – Action got under way in the Buckhannon Country Club Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League last week with Feola’s Flowers taking a slim lead over First Community Bank.Feola’s Flowers dealt Loudin Insurance a 24-16 setback, while First Community Bank thrashed Fisher Auto by a 23 ½-16 ½ margin.In the other first-week match-ups, Custom Cabinets claimed a 22-18 triumph over Highland Landscaping, Lisa Cain-Edward Jones eked out a 20 ½-19 ½ decision over Sam’s Pizza, and High Point Construction and Hank Ellis Insurance scrapped to a 20-20 stand-off.Fisher Auto’s Randy Coffman captured Low Net honors with a 33, with Howard Feola of Feola’s Flowers and First Community Bank’s Larry Carpenter following with 34 and 35, respectfully.Coffman also was the Low Actual leader with a 37, with Feola carding a 38 and Kyle Lane of Sam’s Pizza shooting a 39.The standings, top individual performers and this week’s schedule:STANDINGS          Team                               Points1. James (Jim) P. Reger

LA MESA, Calif. — James (Jim) P. Reger, a resident of San Diego, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016. He was born on June 2, 1952, in Buckhannon, the son of the late Robert H. Reger and Gwen Finlayson Reger.He graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in Buckhannon, W.Va., in 1970. He was a three sport varsity player and was named to the All State football team his senior year. He graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University in 1974 with a major in U.S. history with an emphasis in creative writing. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He had relocated to San Diego as a bass player/singer in The East West Band in the 1970s. He was well versed in Civil War history and was a re-enactor. He was a retired teacher of history at the secondary level in San Diego County and a prize-winning author of books including “Baptism at Bull Run, Great Battles in History: The Battle of Antietam,” “Generals of the Confederacy,” “Life in the South During the Civil War,” “The Way People Live-Life Among The Indian Fighters” and “Rebuilding Bosnia.” He was an accomplished musician, songwriter, poet, and historian and... Timothy Michael Hicks

JANE LEW — Timothy Michael Hicks, 57, of Cherry Hill Lane Buckhannon, passed away at 6:47 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2016 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a long battle with COPD.He was born in Buckhannon on Jan. 13, 1959, a son of the late Albert Herschel Hicks and Edna Grace Slaughter Hicks. His fun, friendly nature will be carried on by his son, Andrew J. Hicks (wife Danielle) of Altoona, Pa.; seven grandchildren: Alexis, Ethan, Dylan and Dayvanee Hicks, Barrett Sipes, Kayla Lee and Zakary Hick, all of Altoona, Pa.; three siblings: Sharon Lee Long, of Seaside, Calif., Shirley Ellen Feaganes, and Michael A. Hicks and wife, Linda, all of Buckhannon.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Thomas and Michal J. Hicks; and his brother, Robert Wayne Hicks.Tim worked as a sales manager for Courtesy Ford in Altoona, Pa. for over 24 years. Lora Belle Campbell

BUCKHANNON — Lora Belle Campbell, 80, of French Creek, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was born Jan. 5, 1935 in Kanawha Run, a daughter of the late John and Ruth Riggleman Smallridge.
