FITCHBURG -- Spring has finally come to Massachusetts -- and to the Fitchburg Art Museum.
For the 20th year, visitors to Art in Bloom this weekend can look at the artwork in the museum alongside flower interpretations created by local residents.
Near Yasumasa Morimura's painting of Frida Kahlo is a pedestal with flowers arranged similarly to the ones that appear around Kahlo's head. By Mohamad Hafez's sculpture of ruins emerging from a suitcase are flowers poking out of a pot that appears to be at a similar level of decay.
The event opened Thursday with "Hidden Treasures," a tour specifically designed for patients with dementia and their caregivers.
"We try to activate long-term memory," said Ann Descoteaux, director of docents at the Fitchburg Art Museum.

Feb 3, 2016UMass basketball recruiting: Minutemen add 3-star forward Tyrn Flowers to star-studded 2016 class (report)
Incidentally, Baldwin and Gresham, both of whom play for Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, and Jarreau, who was up visiting from New Orleans to watch them play, were all at UMass practice at the Mullins Center earlier in the day Monday.
Breaking - Sacred Heart (CT) & @RENShoops 6'8 F Tyrn Flowers tells me he has committed to UMass. Another major coup for Minutemen in '16.

Flowers: "fell in love with campus & facility, thought of players as brothers & had great relationship w/ @CoachKellogg & @Adam_Ginsburg"
— Adam Finkelstein (@AdamFinkelstein) January 12, 2016
Flowers joins DeJon Jarreau, Chris Baldwin, Brison Gresham & Unique McLean to form best UMass class in a long time. Tops in A10 thus far.
— Adam Finkelstein (@AdamFinkelstein) January 12, 2016
Flowers, who according to Finkelstein was deciding between Providence and Maryland, as well, really pushes the team's 2016 class over the top in terms of quality depth. He could easily redshirt once he gets to campus, which might be best for his continued development.
Here's what ESPN had to say about Flowers before the current high school season (and remember, he's only gotten better):
Strengths: Flowers is a classic late bloomer who has grown 4 inches in the last 16 months and may still be growing. He's a left-handed perimeter forward who can play either as a big wing or face-up four with his newfound size, depending on match-ups. He's very long and pretty fluid covering the court. He has a compact shooting stroke and soft touch from behind the three-point line and is equally capable of making some tough pull-ups off the dribble. He can surprise you with some plays up above the rim and generally speaking has a lot of upside still left to discover.
Weaknesses: He isn't a great athlete, specifically with regard to his foot speed. He's not going to go by too many people off the dribble or change direction off the bounce and so when he looks t... (MassLive.com)
