Feb 2, 2016Music, poetry and art continue to thrive at Morso
Morso over the last several years," he said. "We've had many really fine touring singer/songwriters."
Musicians like coming to Gig Harbor and the audience loves the intimate feel of the room, Lynn added.
"We rearrange the entire dining room and light up the performance area. It becomes much more of a listening room feeling where everyone is focused on the artists. You get to see and feel the performance because the artists are right there in front of you, not back on some stage you need binoculars to see. It's really all about the intimate entertainment experience."
Several well-known bands performed during the holidays and more musicians are waiting in the wings.
On Jan. 21, award-winning singer-songwriter Hilary Scott makes an appearance. Washington native Scott won the Americana/Folk Album of the Year for 2014 from the Rural Roots Music Commission.
In February, jazz songstress Greta Matassa returns for an encore performance. "Greta is one of the best jazz singers in the Northwest," Lynn said. "She's been voted Northwest Vocalist of the Year six times by Earshot Jazz and she was just inducted into the Washington Jazz Hall of Fame."
The acoustic duo Mouths of Babes brings their eclectic repertoire of blues, folk and soul to Morso in February.
Singer-songwriter John Gorka comes to town in March. His songs have been recorded by artists such as Mary Chapin Carpenter and Nanci Griffith.
Perennial gypsy jazz favorite Pearl Django also is booked for a springtime gig.
"We book a lot of touring artists," Lynn said. "Many of them have played with us before, but we also get a lot of musicians who've heard about us and contact us asking to play."
Lynn recently made a deal with the Tacoma Symphony to bring a three-part series of classical ensembles to Morso. "It took several years to work that out and I'm really pleased that we were able to do it," he said. "It really gives us a good diversity of musical entertainment.
"We're very passionate about music, all types of music. There is just ... (Kitsap Sun)

Jan 8, 2016A summer of change for Gig Harbor's farmers markets
There’s no shortage of farmer’s markets on the peninsula, with markets in downtown, Uptown and at Peninsula Gardens.
The Gig Harbor Farmers Market, which used to run at Skansie Brothers Park, found itself seeking a new location and headed to Uptown for a Sunday market. With that market moved after its permit was not renewed by the city, the Waterfront Farmers Market debuted downtown.
Gig Harbor Farmers Market manager Dale Schultz wanted to put the Sunday market in Skansie Park as well, but was unable to get a permit from the city.
“(The park) was not going to be used. Period,” Schultz said.
After the summer switcheroo for the markets, the relationship between the Gig Harbor Farmers Market and the city has been tenuous at best, Schultz said, but the move to Uptown turned into “a fine little market.”
For the Waterfront Farmers Market, run by the Downtown Waterfront Alliance, the first year was a success that was also full of change. Now in its final week of the year, market manager Kathleen Rose handed the reins over to the alliance in late August. A new market manager has come on board at the alliance alr...
