Autumn festivals celebrate apples, flowers, animals and agriculture

Saturday. So dig out your boots and enjoy the great outdoors of the Virginia Piedmont. Here’s a look at what’s happening: SATURDAY ONLY GORDONSVILLE FALL FESTIVAL: Formerly a street festival, the Fall Festival in the town of Gordonsville in Orange County moved three years ago from Main Street (U.S. 15 south of Culpeper) to the nearby fairgrounds at 301 E. Baker Street and there it has stayed. It happens this year from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. next to the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Dept. and is one of the company’s biggest fund-raisers. The fall festival will feature kettle corn, fried chicken, the art of Edwin Talley, free Gideon Bibles, Barbara’s Soul Food on Wheels and dozens of other vendors selling crafts, food and more. Entertainment will be by the Kenwood Players, Hi-Horse Cloggers, Rivanna River Band, Brushwood School of Dance and Oleatha Braxton. Free admission. Gordonsvillefirecompany.com WARRENTON-FAUQUIER HERITAGE DAY: A celebration of history in action, the 12th Annual Heritage Day happens from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. around the visitor’s center/Mosby House at 33 N. Calhoun St. in Old Town Warrenton. The event will feature a bivouac area, tour of town, demonstrations, artifacts, roving musicians, author tables, displays, entertainment, sutlers, lectures, children’s activities and period entertainment while highlighting more than 200 years of local and national history.
