John Wabbe, 69

John, born on Flag Day, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965-68, 3rd Armored Division, in Fort Belvoir, Va., and in Hanau, Germany. John was an active member in local chapters of Disabled American Veterans, VFW and American Legion where he spent many happy hours in the company of fellow vets. In addition, Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited were his special interests. John was happiest when showing his 1972 Ford Gran Torino with the Saturday Night Cruisers. With his naturally upbeat attitude, John met every MS challenge with grace and dignity, never complaining of pain or discomfort. He visited numerous countries around the world, making friends wherever he went. When he could no longer travel far, John’s love of reading transported him instead. John also had a love of learning, especially about Minnesota history, its towns and cities and how their names originated. John touched many lives with his gentle nature, his smile, sense of humor and “Wabbe wit.” He was an inspiration to all. Surely he will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. John was preceded in death by his father, Victor J. Wabbe Sr.; mother, Doreline M. Wabbe; grandparents, Walter and Julia Kloos, Lewis and Emma Wabbe. John is survived by his loving family, sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Wabbe and Patrick Rooney of Evanston, Wyo., Jeanne and Nihat Cur of Plymouth; brother, Victor Wabbe Jr. of Waconia; nieces and nephews, Levent (Elizabeth) Cur, Meral Cur, John (Sarah) Wabbe, David (Allison) Wabbe, John Patrick Rooney, Cameron Rooney, Miles Rooney; great-nieces and nephews, Luke and Zack Wabbe, Samantha Maher, Danielle Layton; uncle, DuWayne (Joann) Kloos; other relatives and friends. Special thanks go to John’s wonderful caregivers, who helped him live his life to the fullest. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia. www.johnsonfh.com Photo Gallery ...
