MR. JAMES HENRY SPROUSE, JR., M.D.

Mr. James Henry Sprouse, Jr., M.D. of Cedar Bluff passed away Friday, April 15, 2016. After years of a deteriorating mind due to Alzheimer’s disease, he had a good life and it’s sad it ended this way with no memory of the man he was or the life he led. He was born December 1, 1931, in Abbeville, S.C., to An only child, he excelled in school and became an Eagle Scout. After graduating high school, Henry attended Erskine College in Due West, S.C., from 1950-1953. While in college he was married to Anne Perry. They had five children. Henry graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1957. He completed an internship and residency in Anesthesia at Medical College Teaching Hospitals in Charleston. From there, he worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland as a staff and research anesthesiologist. From 1963-1967, Henry was an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Illinois, Stephanie Crook (fiancé Nathan Laska) of Duncan, Janice (Grant) Swenson of Des Moines, Iowa, Heather Crook (fiancé Kevin Kucera) of Cedar Bluffs, Sheila (Allen) Stanek of Valparaiso, Kayla Kilgore of Papillion, Eric Tonniges of Gresham and Amber Tonniges of Gresham. Great-grandchildren are Quinn Soulliere, Ellie Ann Crumrine, Avery Lee Crumrine, Hudson Swenson and Brennan Swenson. Siblings are Helen Prochaska of Ulysses, Paul Vavra of Rising City, Dorothy (Ronald) Ruth of Rising City, Maxine Reinke of Columbus and Doris (Randy) Henderson of Maricopa, Arizona; along with her brother-in-law Alton Crook and wife, Lois, of Fremont; daughter-in-law, Linda (Terry) Bartunek; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Patricia Scott

Chad Scott, his wife, Lisa, and their children, Emma, Lydia and Ian of Ellicott City, Md.; and sister-in-law Rida, and her husband, Larry Knutzen of Cedar Bluffs. She adored her nieces and nephew. She will also be missed by her many dear friends who meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Irene Lyddon; and both of her sisters, Gayle Doud and Deb Lyddon. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
