Bruce Waugh of Alaska, Mark (Dawn) Waugh of Battle Mountain, Nevada, daughter Susan (Doug) Carroll of Moab, Utah; sisters, Edna Rowan, Alice (Raymond) Hawks, Dorothy Wire, Teresa Richards, all of Montrose, Colorado; five grandchildren, Hesper (Daniel) Chapman, Erin Carroll, Tyson Carroll, Jordan Waugh and Justin (Amanda) Waugh; and great-grandchild Payson Waugh. Also surviving is Helen Maez, a faithful and dedicated caretaker for the family for many years. Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Raye, and three children. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 725 South 4th Street, Montrose, CO. 81401. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment and committal service will follow at Cedar Cemetery, east of Montrose. The Book Bin presented the flowers that afternoon to customers Andy and Marcee Nettell, who were visiting from Moab, Utah, where they own a bookstore. They had taken a detour on their way to Seattle to explore some Mid-Willamette Valley bookstores.
With the vase in the cup holder of their car, the Nettells headed north. When they stopped for coffee just off Interstate 5 near Chehalis, Washington, they gave the flowers to a male barista working the drive-through of an independent coffee shop.
We don’t know where the bouquet traveled from there.
