Jun 22, 2016Annexation public hearings held at Dayton City Council
The land itself is owned by Napoleon Palacios who had already requested that the fireworks stand be grandfathered in under Dayton’s ordinance forbidding the sale of fireworks, and the council voted Monday to do so. The stand may continue to operate at that location as long as it is, in fact, continuous and is not expanded, meaning that the stand may not be used for another purpose and then later turned back into a fireworks business and that it is not made into a larger operation than it has been until now.
At the urging of Dayton Police Chief John Headrick, the council added a requirement that Flowers or Palacios post a sign warning customers that fireworks may not lawfully be discharged within Dayton’s city limits.
Monday night the council heard the first reading of proposed resolutions approving two $50,000 Dayton Community Development Corporation incentive grants, one to Hiller Carbon, LLC to help with their $2.7 million expansion, and the other to Wachter, Inc., a company that plans to break ground the second week of July on property off FM 1960 where they hope to employ 50 people by the end of 2018. Wachter provides electronic, data and communications services to refineries, chemical plants and paper mills.
