48th Harlingen Flower Show set for March 25 & 26

The Harlingen Council of Garden Clubs presents its 48th Flower Show March 25 and 26 at the Cultural Arts Center, 576 ’76 Drive, next door to the Harlingen Public Library.Show hours are 1 to 4:30 p.m. both days. Admission and lectures are free and the public is invited to attend. Lecture space is limited; first come, first served.Leafing Thru Literature is this year’s theme. Kauai Mortuary.Baltazar ‘Pancho’ Ortiz Jr.Baltazar “Pancho” Ortiz Jr. of Lihue passed away at home on Jan. 18 at the age of 77. He was born in Harlingen, Texas, on Jan. 4, 1940, and retired as an aircraft mechanic with the Air National Guard.He was preceded in death by his daughters Conchita and Katinka.He is survived by his wife Incarnacion “Inky” Ortiz; four sons, Xavier Ortiz, Gilbert Patrick (Laurie) Ortiz, Antonio (Avis) Ortiz and Eziquiel Ortiz; five daughters, Darlene (Davay) Tapusoa, Maria Lisa (Maximo) Ortiz, Linda (Rudolpho) Garza, Cindy (Joseph) Glunk and Elena Ortiz; 35 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray Ortiz, Mike (Elizabeth) Ortiz and Andy (Abe) Ortiz; two sisters, Gloria (Israel) Garcia and Carmen Ortiz; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Ortiz family with arrangements.Alfred ‘Big Boy’ Kupo Jr.Alfred “Big Boy” Kupo Jr. passed away at the age of 68 on Jan. 23 at his home. Born on Sept. 15, 1948, in Honolulu, he was a heavy equipment operator for the State of Hawaii Airports Division.He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Kupo Sr. and Margaret Kupo, brother Leonard Kupo and sister Geraldine Pasion.He is survived by his wife Pauline Kupo of Kekaha; son Alika (Amanda) Grady of Koloa; daughters Kelly (Greg) Perreira of Kalaheo and Faith Kalamau of Oahu; grandchildren Brigg Perreira, Gianni Perreira, Gheymee Perreira, Rhyder Perreira, Levi Grady, Caleb Grady and Lilinoe Grady; brothers Harvey Frost of Nevada, Jimmy Frost of Oahu, Will (Nadine) Frost of Oahu and John Kupo of Nevada; sister, Elee Lonoea of Oahu; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kekaha Ward.
