Dawn Lowe Obituary - Bloomington, IL | The Pantagraph - Legacy.com
She was fiercely devoted to her husband and children and always their biggest fan. Dawn will be dearly missed by her family and friends, who take comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with her husband Don, who was the love of her life. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Illinois Education Association, and the National Education Association of Retired Teachers. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Foundation. Dawn and Don loved Westminster Village and Martin Health Center, and all the staff and friends that were a part of their lives there. We cannot thank our Westminster/Martin Health Center "Family" enough for all of their care, support, and loving attention. Online condolences may be left at www.calvertmemorial.com. These colorful, resilient plants can withstand the blistering summer heat - OCRegister
The more light the better as long as the rays of hot afternoon sun are not allowed to reach it. Hoyas are famous for staying comfortable in the same flower pot for decades.
I had never heard of Hoyas being grown outdoors in the San Fernando Valley – or anywhere else for that matter! — prior to receiving Buffington’s testimonial. You will not find Hoya listed in the Sunset Western Garden Book, the so-called Bible of gardening, because that esteemed volume does not include indoor plants and Hoyas are invariably classified as such. Generally speaking, Woodland Hills is hotter in the summer and colder in the winter than any other part of the San Fernando Valley. You would think that its occasional hard winter frosts and consistently dry and hardly humid summers would spell disaster for growing tropical Hoyas outdoors, yet Buffington has kept hers thriving in precisely such conditions for 26 years without a single moment of indoor respite.
Even more remarkable is the fact that Buffington’s cultivar – Hoya carnosa variegata cv. Tricolor — is considered one of the more difficult ones to grow since it especially craves humidity. Tricolor is distinguished by its leaves being outlined in cream, yellow, or pink.
Stories like that of Buffington and her Ho... Sep 7, 2020
Shop Paulina Buckley's Wild and Whimsical Floral Creations - 5280 | The Denver Magazine
Tell us about your shop.If you were to come to my home, this is what my home looks like. When you walk into the shop, it feels very comforting. It smells like amazing flowers, and we burn candles from a local candlemaker, Wooly Wax. Our plants are eye-catching. They’re very exotic and obscure, not what you would expect to see at a typical plant store. At the same time, we lean toward plants that aren’t extremely difficult to take care of. We carry a lot of cactus, succulents, orchids, and a variety of aloes and ferns. We offer people refreshments when they come in—we have coffee, wine, champagne, water—and we have a table outside with four seats and people can just hang out.
Amidst the tangle of foliage, shoppers will discover unexpected treasures, including artwork by Denver-based Fernanda Durmer. Photo courtesy of Buckley House of Flowers
Do you partner with any local farms?I work with Red Daisy Farm in Brighton, Little Hollow in Berthoud, Little Seed in Johnstown, and this really wonderful company called the Colorado Flower Collective.
What else do you sell?We just got some products in from Ladybird Vintage, and we have lots of different artwork from local Denver artists. It changes every week.
This has been a tough year for a lot of people. Why do flowers matter?People in general gravitate toward nature. Flowers brighten up a space, and if you’re feeling down, flowers bring joy. Especially now.

Obituary: Joseph Walter Fortenberry - Oak Ridge Today
Stella, his father Joseph Hubert, and his younger sister Debra Fortenberry.
Joe will be missed, but the family is comforted knowing that he is free from the pain and discomfort he had experienced for years.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held in June 2021 in Knoxville, Tennessee, with the dates to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s name to Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville, Maryland, are welcomed. Sacred Heart is where Joe called home for the last 12 years. The wonderful staff and the Ministry of Sisters, Servants of Mary Immaculate, made Joe feel safe and secure and introduced him to the beautiful teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The address for Sacred Heart Home is 5805 Queens Chapel Road, Hyattsville, MD 20782.
