Sandy "The Flower Man" recovers from stroke, community steps in to help

Worley said. "He makes me feel awesome, he makes everybody feel awesome. He has the brightest smile, and the best outlook on life."Peter Melloy with Clyde's on Main Street says Sandy has been missed by customers and employees."Sandy is the flower guy, he comes in almost every day at least once or twice a day and brings his flowers," Melloy said. "He's a legend in Chattanooga." Becky visited Sandy in the hospital, took his picture and posted an update on Facebook. "When I went in that hospital room he was all smiles and happy to see me and was very positive and said I'm gonna be back out there soon."The money raised will go to help pay Sandy's rent and medical expenses. Did They Wear Flowers in Their Hair? See the Happy Hippies in 1967

The Detroit and Newark rebellions occurred 50 years ago this season, as did the releases of “Sgt. Peppers” and “Bonnie and Clyde.” And then, overarching all, there was San Francisco’s 1967 Summer of Love, subject of Jack O’Connell’s on-site report, “Revolution.”Mr. O’Connell’s grandly titled documentary — advertised “for adults only” when it opened in New York in 1968 — has been digitally restored for showings at Anthology Film Archives on Saturday and Sunday. It is a prize artifact. While images of hippies and be-ins may be overfamiliar, an 87-minute immersion in countercultural exuberance can still be disorienting. In its blithe sense of social breakdown, “Revolution” would make an excellent double bill with George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” — the yin to the yang of the period’s most evocative American movie.A tour of Haight-Ashbury in “Revolution” is straight travelogue — bare feet, psychedelic posters, handmade notices pasted up by desperate parents, weird pets, garishly painted cars. These were all once novel. The requisite concert footage (Quicksilver Messenger Service, among other bands) is a strobe-lit cinéma-vérité fre...

A Arrangement Florist moves to new space with new ownership

E. Kennedy St. for A Arrangement. The building was formerly split up for businesses over the years, including Gerald's Candy and Nut Shoppe, Clyde Fitness, Crock Pot restaurant and Kennedy Street Florist. Ben Hines and Andy Hayes of Spartanburg-based Spencer/Hines Properties represented the estate of Gerald Tucker in the sale of the Kennedy Street building, listed for $199,000. “Our company is excited that we’re able to retain a retailer to stay in the downtown Spartanburg market,” Hines said. “We know that with A Arrangement’s reputation, they’re making a long-term commitment to the citizens of our community.” Andrew Babb of NAI Earle Furman is handling the sale of the now-vacant South Church Street building, which he said is under contract. ... BC Player of the Week: Knox City's Flowers wins honor

Aren’t you glad I wasn’t amateurish enough to say that Noah flooded Anson with 31 points? 8. Tanner Broadfoot, forward, Sr., Clyde— Dropped 20 points on Stanton in last week’s 63-60 win over the Buffaloes that saw Clyde improve to 11-10. This included a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired. "Hard work in the gym is really paying off,” coach Tarrington Rivers said. “You have to run Tanner out of the gym after practice, and it shows." 9. Johnny Donnelly and Tanner Schnoor, 132- and 220-pound classes, Jr./So., Hawley— Both of these guys took their weight class at last week’s Abilene Invitational Meet. Donnelly took the top spot in the 132-pound division, with a three-lift total of 975 pounds. Schnoor totaled 1,360 to finish first at 220. "Tanner is an outstanding kid who's just as humble as he is strong,” Hawley coach Matt Preston said. “And he's pretty strong." 10. Brooke Jones, guard, Jr., Knox City— Had a combined 37 points through two games last week, including a 25-point, seven-assist, six-rebound effort against Harrold. 10B. Brooklyn Woodard and Taylor Beeson, post/guard, So./Sr., Stamford— The Lady Bulldogs swept Anson (42-31) and Hawley (81-70) in district play last week, with this pair providing nice numbers in both games. Woodard finished with a combined 47 points, 22 rebounds and 11 steals, while Beeson provided 33 points, 14 boards and four steals. 10C. Sheldon Burchett, guard, Sr., Jayton— Again demonstrated why he’s considered one of the area’s top all-around small-school athletes in wins over Valley (43-30) and Paducah (42-29). Burchett averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds last week, while hitting 46.7 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. 10D. Blaine Hughes and Corleone Pressley, guard/forward, seniors, Brownwood—...
