Where to see bluebonnets and wildflowers in Dallas-Fort Worth while social distancing - culturemap.com

The Ennis Bluebonnet Trails are closed, and their beloved annual bluebonnet festival is called off. (Save the date for April 16-18, 2021, they say.) Cedar Hill State Park, normally bursting with color this time of year, is closed, too. And closer to home, Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT), and Fort Worth Botanic Garden are not options. Some DFW parks and natural areas that remain open — like Tandy Hills Hills Natural Area in Fort Worth, Clark Gardens Botanical Park in Weatherford, and Cottonwood Park in Irving — are pretty spots for walks among flowers. But parks attract visitors, and visitors attract groups, and groups are a bad thing. What's blooming whereA family drive out to a field or a bike ride down a country road might just be the only real way to view bluebonnets in the age of social distancing. Proska says besides bluebonnets, we'll see Indian paintbrush, Indian blanket, Evening primrose, Mexican Hat, and Coreopsis blooming now. Photo-worthy patches have sprung up along roads in Mansfield, Azle, and areas around Ennis — even if the official trails are closed. According to posts in the Facebook group Texas Bluebonnets and Wildflowers, Indian Paintbrush (which can be various shades of red, white, orange, yellow, and purple) are abundant in far west Fort Worth, off Interstates 30 and 20, toward Weatherford. Each year, bluebonnets paint the landscape along highways 183, 121, and 114 near DFW Airport. And they dot stretches of I-30 within the Fort Worth and Arlington city limits, too. For those willing to drive a bit out of town, pretty patches and gorgeous fields have been spotted in Plano. One is near the J.C. Penney headquarters on Legacy Drive. Another is along the Bluebonnet Trail Greenbelt, just east of where the trail crosses Custer Road. Frisco's got some pretty ones just outside Zion Cemetery. For those making it a day-long adventure, farther out of the Metroplex, there are patches at the entrance to Mallard Park in Lavon (about 30 miles north of McKinney) and fields of wildflowers off Highway 75 in Denison and Sherman, spotters say. President of Springfield's Gupton Motors dies

Gupton Motors, Daniel Gupton said he’s worked in the family business his entire life and counts his grandfather as “one of my mentors.” Cedar Hill Mayor David Rainwater worked at Gupton Motors for a little more than 14 years before he left the company last year. He remembered Mr. Gupton as a “super nice guy.” “We got along very well,” he said. “I always respected him, and we spoke daily. He was always very polite and very approachable. I remember he would always share farm stories from when he was growing up in Cheatham County. He saw some tough times, as I’m sure everyone who lived during that time did. “But, it always struck me how he was able to overcome it all, and even in his latter years, he still loved to be outside, working in the yard and keeping everything nice and neat.” Russell Gupton described his grandfather as “a perfectionist” when it came to his yard. Before the 2015 holiday season, Russell Gupton said his grandfather would continue to work at Gupton Motors each and every day. “He never officially retired,” Russell Gupton said. “In his mind, he still thought of it as his car lot.” Graveside services will be held for Mr. Gupton at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Will Smith Cemetery on Lockertsville Road in Ashland City. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gupton was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Shearon Gupton, his brother Bobby Gupton and his sister Peggy Keith.He is survived by his sons, Walter D. “Donnie” (Jerri) of Pleasant View, Ken Gupton (Beth) of Goodlettsville, Mike Gupton (Lisa) of Springfield and Scott Baker; his daughters, Annette Schultz of Austin, Texas and Shearon Peterson (Tommy) of Beaumont, Texas; his sister, Brenda Givan of Ashland City; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Will Smith Cemetery Fund, care of the Robertson County Funeral Home, 2201 Memorial Blvd. in Springfield.
