Barbara Jean Lenth

Barb went on to graduate from St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, in 1951. On Feb. 3, 1951, she married Donald Burleson and joined him in his Air Force assignments in Georgia, Texas, Arizona and Delaware. Together, they had three children: Steve, JoAnne and Don. On Dec. 11, 1957, Lieutenant Burleson lost his life when the jet he was piloting failed over the Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles off the coast of France. With her children, Barb returned home to the family farm for a brief time, then moved to Osage where she was a registered nurse at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. On Dec. 29, 1960, Barb married Dale Lenth, and shortly after they moved to Riceville, into a home originally built by Barb’s grandfather. Two children, Jim and Janice, were born to this union, and Barb and Dale also raised their granddaughter, Sonya Jo Starry, beginning in 1981. Barb enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Some of her favorite times were visiting with friends, spending time with her family, playing cards, puttering around among her flowers, and having fun at school events. She was also active in the Lucretia Deering chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and served as chapter historian and chaplain. Barb is survived by four children: Steve (Jean) Burleson of Camden, Maine, Don (Deniz) Burleson of Fort Myers, Fla., Jim (Joan) Lenth of Fort Worth, Texas, and Janice (Todd) Krueger, Luxemburg, Wis.; her sister, Margaret Scott, Des Moines; her grandchildren: Sonya Starry, John Burleson, Liz Schloemann, Sarah (Rob) Comer, Michael Lenth, John Lenth, Mary Kate Lenth, Donald Burl... Ellen and Emily O’Neal, Fort Worth   Cheers: To the Burleson High School Prom After Dark committee for putting together a safe and fun party for students after the prom. Thanks to Sheila Borowski, Coralee Flug, Lorrie Ward, Susan Beaman, Susanne Pitman, Angel Brown, Jennifer Tatum and all the parent volunteers. Danielle Helfrich, Burleson   Cheers: To Clint Calhoun and his crew at Roadmaster Industries Inc. They have worked on our boat trailer for many years. Thanks especially to Clint for the amazing deal he gave to my husband, Eddie. Elaine Revell, Hurst   Cheers: To whoever is leaving flowers on my front porch anonymously for my wife, who is fighting pancreatic cancer. Donald Clark, Benbrook   Cheers: To Stephanie Lozano, who went far out of her way to help me after a truck hit my car on Interstate 20 on April 13. Charlotte Mashaw, Willow Park   Cheers: To the very honest person who turned in my wallet at the Burleson Lowe’s Home Improvement on April 16. My husband picked up our shopping bag and I failed to see the wallet under it in the basket seat. Joan Lee, Burleson/... (Fort Worth Star Telegram)
