Mansfield to commit to America in Bloom beautification

It's going to happen real fast. We're just going to bite the bullet and do it this year." Volunteers from Ontario, Bellville and Shelby, who were invited to the meeting Thursday could decide whether to jump in this year, or delay until next year, he said. Versaw said he'd like to see the city participate in America in Bloom for at least five years. "The ones who benefit most from the program are the ones who stay in it for five or 10 years," continuously looking for projects, Hahn said. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for 8 a.m. Feb. 23 at Kingwood Center's carriage house, to allow area residents from any location around the county who are interested in pursuing America in Bloom beautification projects. "I want to take this to the next level and get the community involved, find volunteers," Versaw said. "I'm excited, and I think we want to get the whole community excited about it." lmartz@gannett.com419-521-7229Twitter: @MNJmartz Read or Share this story: http://ohne.ws/2k4I7RM ... Florist returns to her roots with Carrousel District shop

Park Avenue West in October 1999. “I always knew I wanted to have my own flower shop," she said. Her grandmother grew flowers, entering them in the Bellville Street Fair every year. "Every category you could think of for flowers," she said. "Every year at her house that time of the year, it was packed full of flowers." And her mother has a green thumb, too — she owns an interior plant-scaping business, taking care of plants in local businesses. "It’s kind of in the blood, I guess," she said with a laugh. Beaire, a 1991 graduate of Lexington High School, received degrees in horticulture from Pioneer Career and Technology Center and floral design and marketing from the Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute. After high school, Beaire worked in the old Stuhldreher building for five years under former owner Al Goodman. She left in July 1999, just a few months before her shop opened. Goodman and his wife, Joetta, sold the shop in early 1999. "The basics of what it takes to run a business like this, I learned from Albert Goodman," she said. The move is expected to be completed around the first of the New Year. (Photo: Brian J. Smith/News Journal ) Joetta Goodman is still a customer of Beaire's, and when she came in a few weeks ago, she asked if the rumors she heard about Beaire moving into the new location were true. "She just started crying, and I was like, is that good tears or bad tears?" Beaire said. "She goes, oh that’s good tears. Al would be thrilled.” Beaire is looking forward to returning to the building where she mastered her craft. She's also looking forward to becoming a part of the city's revitalized Carrousel District. “I love what they’re doing downtown," she said. "I love the art. (Mansfield News Journal)
