Newbern man arrested for robbery, burglary

Oda Dean Flowers, 35, 127 McCullough St. in Newbern, was charged for the crimes and currently is being held without bond pending an appearance in Dyersburg City Court on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Late Sunday night at approximately 10:32, members of the Dyersburg Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding an armed robbery at the Neighborhood Market and Deli located at 100 Gordon Ave. The store clerk reported a white male wearing a hoodie entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint, before fleeing on foot behind the location. Long and Gibson Pharmacy Neighborhood Market and Deli Members of the DPD arrived in the area to set up a perimeter as a responding officer observed the front door glass at Long and Gibson Pharmacy, located at 303 Tickle St., broken and a suspect inside. Officers quickly surrounded the pharmacy and entered, ultimately confronting the suspect at gunpoint. Though a brief standoff ensued when the suspect refused officers' orders, Flowers quickly surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. "In light of the increased scrutiny of law enforcement nationwide, I would like to remind the citizens that our officers remain committed to confronting the apparent dangers as in this situation," said DPD Capt.
