Spring blooms at Attleboro museum's flower show | Local News - The Sun Chronicle

New aspects of the show were petting zoos and educational programs from Enchanted Animals of Groton, Animal Adventures of Bolton, and Rain Forest Reptiles of Beverly, which were sponsored by the Attleboro Rotary.Another new feature, set up in the museum’s basement, featured six displays by “sugar artists” — sculptures of nature and animals that were also edible. One sugar sculpture titled “Lost Crown of the Fairy Queen,” by Evelyn Herman of North Easton, featured a tree stump adorned with butterflies, flowers and small toadstools — all created from gumpaste, modeling chocolate, fondant, edible petal dust and gold, with cast sugar butterflies.“Isn’t that incredible,” said one patron who was admiring the various sugar art pieces on display at the museum. In the gallery, the scent of flowers permeated the air as wide-eyed patrons took their time admiring the various landscape booths and other artwork.Collette Brough, 9, of Attleboro, was busy with her mother’s cell phone, taking photo after photo of some of the landscape artistry, such as “Garden of Eden” by Nolan’s Flowers & Gifts and “Secret Garden” by Oracle Landscaping and Lindsey Epstein Pottery.“We’re just blown away by the flower displays,” said Collette’s mother, Suzanne Brough. “This year in particular, they’re really stellar.”The Brough’s pick of the Flower Show was “Camelot,” created by Flowers By The Station, which featured a setup of Merlin’s workshop — and a mannequin of Merlin himself — with a suit of armor standing outside the display.Suzanne Brough was amazed by the structure of Merlin’s workshop, which had been constructed as an actual room.“You usually don’t see that here,” Brough said of the display. “It’s amazing.”Among the other prominent landscape booths were Helping Hands Florist’s “Oz,” complete with a Dorothy mannequin, a rainbow made from carnations, and a yellow brick road of sunflowers; “Fountain of Youth” by Briggs Nursery, with an actual fountain in the center...

He sold that business in 2002 for a gain of $6 million and opened an Internet flower business three years later after a noncompete clause expired. He sold that business in 2011 for another $6 million gain.Adams' two prior convictions will be taken into account at his sentencing. In 1986, he was convicted of using his floral business to submit hundreds of fraudulent credit card sales online, according to the government. He was sentenced to probation and community service, fined $10,000 and ordered to liquidate two pieces of real estate, a Jaguar and a Mercedes Benz.In 1992, he was convicted for willful failure to file tax returns for tax years 1984 and 1985. He was sentenced to three months in prison and five years' probation and ordered to repay the government. The government sentencing memorandum indicates that, "while on probation, Adams continued his scheme of obstructing the IRS' efforts to collect back taxes from him by, for example, bouncing checks to the IRS, failing to pay amounts owed, and giving other false information to IRS collections officers."k.florin@theday.com...

Exeter woman charged in River Bend plant thefts

From this section:17-year-old charged in shooting outside Groton restaurant Lacey said the department released the images after a patron of the Beach Street cemetery filed a complaint on Sept. 27. The patron turned over footage to police captured from a motion-activated camera that had been set up on a family member’s gravestone. The footage captured Mueller in the act as she took potted flowers from a grave site, police said. After releasing the footage, Westerly police received several calls from neighbors that allowed police to identify Mueller. Officers visited Mueller’s home Wednesday, noting that there were numerous plants that had been recently planted around their property. Mueller, who lives with her husband, was not home at the time. Lacey said police were notified by neighbors when the couple returned home on Wednesday evening. Detectives went to the house and spoke in the driveway with Mueller’s husband, who admitted that Mueller had come home with numerous plants recently, but he thought they had been purchased. Mueller’s husband, who was not identified, granted detectives access to the home, where Mueller was waiting. Mueller immediately told police she was shaken up by “the stupid thing she had done,” and admitted to officers that she had taken the plants, approximately 24 in all, over a three-month period. She agreed to turn herself in and did so Thursday morning, Lacey said, allowing her to go to Fourth Division District Court for arraignment. The case is now considered closed. jvallee@thewesterlysun.com ... (The Westerly Sun)
