Army Air Forces. Training locations included, Santa Ana, California; Glendale, Arizona; Pecos, Texas; Douglas, Arizona; and Greenville, South Carolina as First Station. In the South andTexas he became more aware of deeper issues of racial inequality than he'd seen in Nebraska, where his family sometimes hosted a visiting African Methodist Episcopal (AME) minister for lunch, and he strove to treat everyone fairly throughout his life. In the chapel on base in Pecos, Texas he married Anita Alene Sibbitt, an accomplished violinist who had graduated from what is now the University of Nebraska at Kearney and taught high school for a year in Yutan,Nebraska. She followed Howard around the country for much of his pilot training, working variously as a butcher's helper, nurse's aid, and store clerk.Howard was later stationed in Hawaii, flying North American B-25 Mitchells. While he was flying missions in B-25s as a First Lieutenant in the 7th Air Force, 41st Bombardment Group, 820th Bomb Squadron out of Okinawa over Japan and Japanese-occupied China, Anita had become a "Rosie the Riveter" and learned gas welding at Ryan Aeronautical in San Diego.After the war she resumed teaching and then guidance counseling, and completed her master's degree at what is now San Diego State University. Howard also completed his bachelor's degree there on the G.I. Bill, and later his master's degree. Both did post-graduate work at the University of Southern California.From 1948 to 1984 Howard was a teacher and guidance counselor in the San Diego Unified School District, with most of that time at Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School (now Roosevelt International Middle School) where he primarily taught geography, social studies, and history, sometimes with what was referred to as a "Mr. Dungan story." Years into retirement, he would still run into former students greeting him and saying, "Mr. Dungan, you told the dumbestjokes and stories!" Howard would ask which one; the former student would repeat it and the context, and then he would reply, "Ah, but you remembered!"Howard and Anita loved to play golf at the Tijuana Country Club and Balboa Park Golf Course, were once active in the Methodist Church in La Mesa, and had a custom home built in Spring Valley where they resided until they passed. They vacationed in Mexico City, and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada with a succession of travel trailers. These trips were later accompanied by their only child, Michelle Dungan, now a retired California Department of Transportation Associate Environmental Planner. Wilton, died peacefully at Norwalk Hospital on Thursday, January 16, 2020. She was the loving wife of the late George H. Klein for 39 years. Born in Greenville, SC on August 17, 1945, Glorilynn was the daughter of the late Andrew and Irene (Lucskay) Kurimai and had lived in Norwalk for 68 years. She was a graduate of Brien McMahon High School, Class of 1963.She was a lifelong devoted member of the Calvin Reformed Church in South Norwalk and served 21 years as their Sunday School Superintendent. Glorilynn coached the Norwalk Special Olympics for 25 years and enjoyed kayaking, astronomy and travel.Survivors include her son, Andrew Klein and his wife Dalila, her daughter Deborah Dirocco and her husband Arthur, her brother Mark Kurimai and his wife Nora, her sister Irene Lambert and her husband Glenn, grandchildren Michelle and Andrew Klein, Nikolas Petrov, Arthur, Victoria, George and Kayla Dirocco, and several nieces and nephews.Services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 11 AM at the Calvin Reformed Church, 19 Lexington Ave., South Norwalk with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. She also did graduate work at Youngstown State and the University of Akron. Mrs. Getchy taught Biology at Wilmington Area High School and 8th grade Life Science and Biology at Neshannock High School. She enjoyed teaching and had many fond memories of ?her kids.? She was especially close to the class of ?64 at Wilmington High School. Elli was active in the PA Junior Academy of Science and other professional organizations. She was Presbyterian and had been co-moderator of Presbyterian Women in Shenango Presbytery. She was active in numerous church functions. Elli was also a member of the Studebaker National Family Association. She enjoyed snow skiing, going to the Ohio State and Notre Dame Football games, good books, music and people. Elli married Bill Getchy Aug. 22, 1959. Bill was her ?Mr. Everything? and preceded her in death on July 8, 2016, after 56 years of marriage. "We want to give people the surprise and delight of receiving flowers."Shop employees will be on the road to Cairo, Catskill, Coxsackie, Greenville and Windham by 9:30 a.m. today and wrap up at about 5 p.m., Gallo said. Gallo's shop will close today at 3 p.m. instead of the usual 5 p.m.Specific locations and times have not been determined because Gallo and her staff want to make the florid appearances unexpected for residents, she said."If it's in Greene County, we'll be there," Gallo said. "The only thing we have a plan on is who's taking what areas." Flowers make people happy, Gallo said, and Petal It Forward originated in 2015 as a way of brightening people's day by giving them flowers."They always bring a little joy," Gallo said. "It gives people a sense of nurturance and caring."The Society encouraged its members to participate in Petal It Forward and Gallo, who is a member, was happy to get involved, she said. The shop receives no funding for its participation.Gallo, who is promoting the day on Facebook, has heard both cheerful and sad stories from people who received the flowers."We got such positive feedback from the people," she said. "It has nothing to do with politics. It's just a random act of kindness."Flowers reduce stress and make people happy, according to research by the University of North Florida, Sparks said. For that reason Petal It Forward is held on Wednesday this year to add a bright spot to the mid-week slump."Flowers are certainly aesthetically beautiful, but they are scientifically proven to improve your well-being," she said. "It's kind of a win-win here."The society encourages florists nationwide to stick with the mission of giving each person they see two bouquets of flowers, but some add their own spin, Sparks said."Some members have gotten their police officers involved - it's really neat to see the unique spin different florists will put on," Sparks said.
