Spring flowers fill Home & Garden show with color

Saturday at the entrance to the Aiken Standard’s Home & Garden Show at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center.Adam’s Nursery in Barnwell created the garden for the annual show, which also included other businesses to help residents spruce up their kitchens, bathrooms, pools and yards for spring.“The Encore azaleas are a big thing every year,” said Altman, who owns the business with her husband, Adam. “They bloom more than once at different times of the season.”The flowering cherry, cascading with delicate pink blossoms, also proved to be popular.“It’s a weeping, flowering cherry,” Altman said. “Everyone is just adoring it.”And the geraniums Altman brought were a hit, too.“We sold them right off the truck,” she said. “We didn’t even get to bring them into the show.”A few booths down, sisters Peytin Diana and Atalie Apida spun a wheel and won peanut-pretzel protein bars from Bee Healthy Medical Weight Loss, which has a clinic on Silver Bluff Road in Aiken.“We try to do local events throughout the year,” said their mom, Michelle Apida, of Aiken.Anna and John Macdonald of Aiken like to shop local, too.“We’re always looking to support the local economy and local products,” Anna Macdonald said. “We’re ... Marie Renew Raines -- Albany, Georgia

Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015; she was born in Orangeburg. Ms. Raines was the daughter of Jamie Renew Wilson of Bamberg, the late Wyman Renew of Barnwell, and granddaughter of the late Ruth Ward Varn of Bamberg, the late James Ward of Charleston, and Marie and Clatt Renew of Barnwell. Surviving relatives are daughter Tasha (Drew) Flournoy, and grandchildren Hudson and Noah, all of Leesburg, Georgia; brother Kevin Wilson of Bamberg; brother Jay Wilson of Aiken; uncle Billy Varn (Carol) of Bamberg; uncle Leonard Darden of Carrier, Mississippi; aunt Charlyne Graham of Myrtle Beach; and several nieces and nephews. A private memorial will be held later by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Open Door Baptist Church, P.O. Box 952, Bamberg, SC. Hall and Hall Funeral Home in Albany was in charge of the arrangements in Georgia. (The Times and Democrat)
