Anne E. Dickinson, 84

Special interest refugees were coordinated with the Central Intelligence Agency. Anne was a longtime summer resident of Block Island, where she resided at the family residence on Peckham Farm. Anne was always found with a ready smile and displayed the ability to effectively interface with persons at all stations in life. Her concern for humanity was a strong component of her being, and she was compassionate, friendly, efficient, and gracious. Her love of music remained with her to the end of her life and she listened to Beethoven symphonies while awaiting death. A Service of Celebration for Anne will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the auditorium at StoneRidge, 186 Jerry Browne Road, Mystic. A memorial reception will immediately follow. Burial will be private for the family in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Memorial Garden. A Memorial Service will also be scheduled for a later date at St. Ann’s-By-The-Sea on Block Island. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Anne’s memory for the upkeep and enhancement of the St. Mark’s Memorial Garden, where Anne will be laid to rest. Checks can be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with “Anne Dickinson Memorial” on the memo line and mailed to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic, Conn., 06355. Barbara Lee Heineman, 82

Stamford, Conn., home where they would reside for the next 40 years, raising their four sons. In the late 1960s they discovered Block Island, R.I., where they would have the good fortune of buying a summer house in 1972. This unassuming Atlantic coast getaway would become a favorite escape for Barbara and family. She loved the clear water, clean beaches and open green spaces of this quaint little island where she, her husband and sons spent many a blissful time. It was also her son Keith’s favorite. He was tragically lost in 1986. The family made a donation that helped build a wing at the island’s medical center in his name. Barbara “Bobby” Heineman, a.k.a “Burb,” was also an incredible tennis player, swimmer, runner, and she usually ruled the ping-pong table. Her love of life was well known and she was often the life of the party, ruling the dance floor, even when there wasn’t one. She was a big sister and second mother to many, always lending an ear to anyone in need including total strangers. She loved to read and write and many still have her thoughtful letters stashed away.  The family is planning a celebration of Barbara Heineman’s life this coming summer on Block Island. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Barbara’s memory to Block Island Health Services, Box 919, Block Island, RI 02807. As the sole source of healthcare on Block Island, the agency depends upon contributions to provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. (Block Island Times (press release) (subscription) (blog))

Joseph Francis Cullinan, skilled private pilot, served on Coast Guard

Joseph recalling Italy as one of his favorites. Passionate about flying, Joseph enjoyed day trips to Nantucket or Block Island for lunch with his wife, or longer trips with his son and fellow pilot, Nick. Of the many flying adventures to Tampa, FL and Oshkosh, WI, he proudly recalled his most challenging flying adventure was to the Bahamas. Together, their blended family shared many special holidays and events.Joseph loved good food, a cold beer or two, and long discussions. He was always proud of his children, step-children and grandchildren, and appreciated their unique gifts, often with unspoken admiration. He loved to be surrounded by them, and rarely missed an opportunity to be in the company of family. His good humor, and his quiet, powerful and loving presence will be greatly missed.Joseph is survived by his wife, Teresa, his sister, Mary Ball of Wilton, CT; five children; Michael Cullinan (Cathy) of Plainsboro, NJ, Joseph Cullinan of Vershire, VT, Margaret Cullinan-Hill of New Canaan, CT, Nicola Cullinan (Katie) of Bethel, CT and Maria Naughton (Bob) of New Canaan, CT; two step-children; Anne Tomaselli (Larry) of Norwalk, CT and Meg Doyle of Norwalk, CT; fourteen grandchildren; Austin, Micayla, Katie, Aidan, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Siobhan, Bobby, Kathleen, Susan, Laura, Michelle, Shane and Michael, and one great-grand daughter, Marlina.
