Harold Caves Robbins, age 97, of Norwalk

Burial in the Norwalk Cemetery will be held on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016. Harold was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bernice; daughter, Karen Bailey of Portland, Ore.; and two granddaughters, Bridget Bailey of Bend, Ore., and Brooke Bjorkman of Girdwood, Alaska. He is also survived by three of his brothers, Rex Robbins of Des Moines, Iowa, Paul Robbins of Omaha, Neb., and Dave Robbins of Dyersville, Iowa; and two of his sisters, Pauline Blake of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Carolyn Brummel of Leighton, Iowa. Harold was the second oldest of 11 children born to Howard and Flossie (Beltz) Robbins. He was born on June 11, 1918, in Fremont, Iowa. He spent his younger years in Oskaloosa before joining the United States Navy in 1937. During his career in the Navy, Harold served on several ships in the Pacific Theater during World War II as well as serving as a PBM in the Korean War. Harold spent 20 years in the Navy, in the field of aviation and retired as a chief petty officer in 1958. Harold was a member of the VFW and Fleet Reserve Association. He and his wife attended many ship reunions around the country. Harold and Bernice owned a farm for many years in Indianola. Harold enjoyed farming and gardening.
