U.S. Treasury, with weekends spent racing his unbeatable Ford at the track. He opened the Montgomery Ward store on Main Street in Warrenton, working day and night running the store and making deliveries. For a time he ran a car dealership, worked as a Realtor, then ran for Fauquier supervisor. He started Butler Fence, installing countless miles of fencing throughout the area. He found a passion for construction and became a well known homebuilder in the county. Never afraid of hard work, Gene was ever the provider.He and his wife Jeanne had four wonderful children, Neil Butler of Midland, Angela Butler of Midland, Holly Murray of Bealeton and Robinne Miller of Clover, S.C. In addition to his wife and children, Gene is survived by his brother James, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. WARREN — Larry James Rhodes Sr, 73, passed away Wednesday (June 30) at his home surrounded by his family.
Larry was born Jan. 4, 1948 in Chardon, a son of Harry II and Nellie (Bebout) Rhodes.
After graduating from Southington High school in 1966, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Petty Officer 3rd class during the Vietnam War. He was awarded several honors and decorations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, Expert Rifleman medal, Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon and the Purple Heart Award.
In 1969, Larry was honorably discharged for his service.
Upon his return home, Larry earned an associates degree and worked as a steel mill operator, retiring from Bull Moose Tube.
Larry enjoyed coaching sports, fishing, camping and golfing.]

Bracewell’s family bought a farm that included a 7,000-square-foot greenhouse and an insulated barn, cutting her startup costs.Four years ago, the Warrenton area women’s husband died of liver cancer, leaving her to care for their three young children.Rebecca and Ian Bracewell, 49, lived in Tacoma, Wash., at the time of his death.“I was trying to figure out what I was going to do and was thinking about moving back to Virginia,” said Mrs. Bracewell, 39. “I had lived here for a little while when I was younger.”Jokingly, Mrs. Bracewell told her father, Dave Williams, 64, that if he bought her a farm, she would return to Virginia.“So he did,” she recalled with a laugh. “Then it was, ‘OK, now what are we going to do with it’?”Weighing the land’s potential business uses, Mrs. Bracewell concluded that the 26 acres along Green Meadows Road just south of Warrenton wouldn’t be large enough to support a cattle operation and that she had no interest in growing vegetables.“So, I said I love flowers. Ronald, she is survived by her children, Rene (Ed) Slayden of Bethalto, Keri Campbell of Wood River, Rob (fiancé Noelle Harris) Warren of Plantation, FL, and Michelle “Woo” (Bill) Watts of Bethalto; two sisters; a brother; ten grandchildren, Whitney (Sam) Walker, Katlyn (Michael) Rose, Branden (Jen) Slayden, Christopher (Heather) Dixon, Danielle (Jon) LeMay, Demi Youngberg, Nikki Lungwitz, Ryan (Tori) Warren, Victoria (John) Miller, and Tabitha (Nathan) Todd; 17 great-grandchildren; Kaylyn, Madison, Dakota, Avery, Paige, Reed, Nichole, Dylan, Tucker, Lilly, Tyler, Logan, William, Graham, Sawyer, Kalin, Charlotte, and Baby P III on the way; her first husband, Robert “Dick” Warren of Wood River; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Mika Ory; and her mother and father-in-law, Florence Helen and Earl Schmitt.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 5, 2021, from 10 am until time of service at 11:30 am, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO at 1:15 pm. Pastor Terry McKenzie will officiate.

WILMINGTON — Norma Blanche Pittard Knight, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, at home.
Norma was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Warrenton, the oldest daughter of the late George Norman Pittard and Cora Blanche Jenkins Pittard.
Norma graduated from Flora McDonald College and taught in public schools for 10 years. She studied the art of Japanese flower arranging, receiving advanced teaching degrees in the Ikenobo and Ohara schools. Norma shared her love of flowers with her closest friends and with garden clubs throughout Eastern North Carolina. She was a member of the Rocky Mount Junior Guild, the Rocky Mount Garden Club and the Cape Fear Garden Club.
Norma was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Pittard Davis; and brother, George Norman Pittard IV. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Pittard Sieler; and brother, Robert Jenkins Pittard.
Norma leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Dan Knight and their daughter, Rachel K. McKnight; son-in-law, Vince McKnight; and granddaughter, Maria McKnight, all of Wilmington.
