Mar 30, 2017Philadelphia Flower Show blooms with colors and crowds
Two hours before Saturday’s Philadelphia Flower Show opening, Gustavson sat on a SEPTA Lansdale/Doylestown train, dressed in pants decorated with blue roses, eager to explore the tulips that have inspired her since she was 5.Awaiting her at the Pennsylvania Convention Center was a vision that many visitors called magical. At the entrance, a sea of onlookers inched their way under the arch of a replica of a stone bridge, covered in tulips and adorned with bikes.“The entrance makes you feel as if you've discovered a secret garden hidden in a great city — that only you know how to enter,” said Gustavson, who went to the show alone so she could take her time with each display. The vibrant colors, intricately designed displays and Dutch artwork moved visitors in different ways, igniting feelings of excitement and inspiration for some and providing a warm sense of tradition and family for others. Members of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society re-created a miniature Dutch wonderland of bridges, canals and towering windmills, surrounded by more than 30,000 tulips and other types of flowers. Visitors came to view the scenery but also to pick up a few tips in the gardening trade. Workshops offered throughout the day taught people how to attract birds, add a Japanese influence to gardens and design window arrangements. John Grabko, of Doylestown, was looking to find ways to enhance his own garden. Grabko built a rustic tool shed, similar to one that he saw at last year’s show. On Saturday, he was looking for his next backyard addition.Volunteer Chris Jump, of Middletown, said this year's show should leave many gardener... (Bucks County Courier Times)

Brenda was an avid supporter of the National Wildlife Federation and an outdoor enthusiast. She loved long hikes through the forest and mountains, from the trails of the Wichita Mountains to the majestic scenery of the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. Her love of the many songs of John Denver compelled her to the first of many visits to Colorado. Her favorite season was fall with the many colors and ending of the Texas heat. She loved Christmas and decorating the house with her many snowmen. Brenda was also an avid reader with many favorite authors. She loved to cook and even had a couple of her recipes published in a national food magazine. Her love of cats began when she was a little girl and she took care of any that came her way.
