Lancaster County Police Log: Sunday, July 3, 2016
Fremont Street, police reported.
LANCASTER: Edward Beale, 27, of Coatesville, was charged with retail theft after a 2:15 p.m. incident June 27 at Spencer’s Gifts in Park City Center in which police say he took a necklace from a display rack, took the charm from the necklace and then left without paying for it.
LANCASTER: Someone told police that sometime between 2 and 11 a.m. June 28, someone stole his bicycle from the 200 block of Ruby Street.
LANCASTER: A woman told police that sometime between 6:25 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. June 28, someone took medications from her tote bag, which had been left inside her locked room at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square.
MANOR TWP.: Devin T. Yake, 20, of the first block of Kendig Road, Conestoga, was charged after he took two golf carts from Crossgates Golf Course, 1 Crossland Path, and drove them to his home June 22, police said. The golf carts were recovered.
EPHRATA TWP.: Ashlea N. Bernard, 32, of Gordonville, and Kimberly A. Newcomer, 35, of Manheim, were charged with retail theft, theft by deception and criminal conspiracy at the Giant grocery store at 850 E. Main St. in May. The two brought a receipt from a prior purchase to the store, selected the same merchandise, failed to pay for the merchandise and then returned the merchandise using the old receipt, police said. Police allege the two women carried out the scam on three occasions.

Coatesville Flower Shop gives away 10000 roses
COATESVILLE >> Every family has different ways of remembering loved ones who have passed away.
Dorrie and Greg DePedro, who own the Coatesville Flower Shop, choose to honor the memory of their daughter, Lisa, by giving away roses, her favorite flower, every year around the date of her death.
Lisa DePedro died of mesothelioma, or lung cancer, on Aug. 23, 2004. This year, the DePedros gave 10,000 roses out on Friday Aug. 21, due to the 23rd being on a Sunday.
Everyone who visited the flower shop on Friday could receive a dozen roses for free, with the stipulation that they keep one rose, and give the rest away to friends, family or strangers.
In a preview letter for the event, the DePedros said the inspiration to give away roses in memory of Lisa came from something she told them after she was diagnosed with cancer. Lisa DePedro’s parents told her that many people in the community wanted to help, but didn’t know what to do, and she responded: “Tell them to ‘do somethi... (Daily Local News)
