Feb 3, 2016Airbnb launches 15-year-old's career
PETERBOROUGH — When Alex Pollard was 12, he didn’t spend his weekends playing Little League baseball or having sleepovers. He hosted, in his beach-side home outside of San Francisco, guests who hailed from all over the world.
“I have a different take on life and perspective of the world because of it,” said the 15-year-old Pollard, with a budding mustache, curly, black hair and sporting a V-neck sweater. “I don’t feel innately enhanced or better. But, I do feel there are things I see differently.”
A freshman at High Mowing School, Pollard is the youngest host for Airbnb, an online marketplace that allows him and his mother, Laura Hoffman, to rent out their two-bedroom cottage in Santa Cruz. Pollard’s involvement in the lodging service has not only exposed him to a hodgepodge of guests and conversations. It has also allowed him to travel throughout North America and Europe, become civically and politically minded and placed him in Paris during the terrorist attacks in November.

Jun 2, 2015Stamford Flower Club brings joy with Lonely Bouquet campaign
National Flower Arranging Day on Friday last week. They set up a stall at Stamford’s Friday market to show off their work and collect for the Peterborough Downs Syndrome Group, giving a splash of colour to the High Street.

And the club also supported the national “Lonely Bouquet” campaign. They put together several bouquets and left them around the town with notes asking those who picked them up either to accept the gift or pass it on to someone else.
The note also asked people to share the journey of their bouquets with the club.
Club member Janet Warburton said: “One of the Stamford lonely bouquets has found its way to London. The lady reported to Facebook that the flowers were now very happy to be in Wimbledon SW19 and she was delighted. “The National Flower Arranging Society project to leave lonely bouquets across the country on National Flower Arranging Day has proved to be a great success and we await with interest to discover the fate of the other Stamford bouquets.
