Parades celebrating St. Patrick's and St. Joseph's days are still expected to take place across New Orleans in upcoming days, but spectators might have to settle for smiles, rather than smooches, from the marchers amid concerns about the new coronavirus.UPDATE: St. Patrick's Day events in New Orleans canceled amid coronavirusSpokesmen for several of the processions, many of whose members hand out paper flowers in exchange for kisses, said the strolls would go on. Jul 5, 2019Exotic flowers, burlap, and mini disco balls: How Sara Perez-Ekanger built a floral design company - The Advocate
Evangel University in Missouri. There, she met her husband, Trevor. Shortly after they graduated, they married. A few months later, they moved to New Orleans.Perez-Ekanger’s “career” was an elusive concept when she first arrived here. Her husband worked as a photographer; she worked as a server in a few restaurants and also had a gig at a Starbucks coffee shop for a bit, but the real architects of her future were around the corner from the apartment they rented: Carrollton Flower Market and then-proprietor Lisa Rogers. Perez-Ekanger (jokingly at first) mentioned to her husband how much fun it would be to work in a flower shop.“He literally pushed me through the doors,” she says. She was hired, and “the owner, Lisa, took me under her wing, teaching me a lot of things about aesthetics.”As Perez-Ekanger’s skills evolved, Rogers encouraged her to “keep practicing and owning it,” and Perez-Ekanger began freelancing as a floral designer for venues around the city, including Stella Plantation. After three years of working for other businesses, the plan to open Antigua Floral + Styling took shape. The company turned three in February, quickly surpassing its humble beginnings in the living room of the Ekangers’ one-bedroom apartment. Now, she and her team have a dedicated studio space in Gert Town.“At one point, I couldn’t take more business because of how small the studio was,” she says. Now, she and her team can travel for special events. They’ve been flown as far as Key West, Florida to design and style a wedding for a client.

Apr 27, 2019Take a home and garden tour through Eau Gallie - Florida Today
Each stop has its own delights. Among the unique features at the Mitchell House are the parlor fireplace updated with New Orleans fireplace mantle salvaged from Hurricane Katrina and the chandelier which originally hung in a historic Merritt Island hotel.
The sun room ceiling was inspired by a porch ceiling seen in Charleston and the dining room by a pineapple Alaskan chandelier purchased in Vero Beach. The laundry room was inspired by a screen door purchased at Shelly’s and the downstairs bath by an 1800’s “bowl and pitcher” vanity from France and an old tub once used as a flower pot.
In addition to a visit to the Mitchell House, the $20 donation for the tour includes admission to six other stops, among them the Rossetter House Museum and Gardens.
Descended from 17th century New England pioneers, James Rossetter arrived in Eau Gallie in 1902 to make his mark in the local fishing industry as a charter partner of the Indian River & Lake Worth Fish Company. He bought a small structure on the current site in 1904, but soon needed more room for his expanding family.
Instead of building an addition, Rossetter opted to buy the winter home of wealthy New York industrialist John Aspinwall and move it down the Indian River to his Eau Gallie lot. The Aspinwall house, built in 1890, is now the west wing of the house, which Rossetter connected to the existing building with open-air breezeways.
A visit to the house and grounds transports visitors to the well-heeled Florida of the early 1900s. When the Rossetter sisters willed the property to the Rossetter Foundation, they left not only the house and gardens, but also all the furnishings, including Ella’s 1930s Model A Ford convertible, often used as backdrop for many weddings.
