Aug 29, 2016Suburban students return to school Thursday
Thursday, as several suburban districts opened their doors for the new year.
Broken Arrow, Owasso, Bixby, Sapulpa, Bartlesville and Claremore all started classes.
At Broken Arrow’s Highland Park Elementary, cars were parked along the side of the road and on the grass in some areas, as parents chose to walk their children to the door on their first day rather than drop them off.
Grandparents and younger siblings in strollers could also be seen in the halls, and children carrying still-empty backpacks were showing signs of both apprehension and excitement. A few could be seen holding flowers for their teachers. In one classroom, students were working on an assignment asking them to write about their summer.
Thursday was also the first day the district’s new start times and bus schedules went into effect. Broken Arrow had to make the change to address a growing student population that was putting stress on the transportation system.
The change moved the district from a two-bell system to a three-bell system, meaning elementary, middle and high school now all have different start times. The biggest change came at the middle school level, where students are starting m... (Tulsa World)

Jul 31, 2015First Prebyterian Church, Neal and Jean's Flowers deliver smiles to Green Tree ...
The First Presbyterian Church of Sand Springs and a Sapulpa florist brought smiles to Green Tree Assisted Living residents via flowers in smiley-faced mugs Thursday.
Neal and Jean’s Flowers Manager Ronn Doby and Jeanie Kvach of the First Presbyterian Church delivered flowers and plants to five residents of the assisted-living center as part of Teleflora’s national ‘Make Someone Smile Week.’
During the week, florists around the country deliver ‘be happy bouquets’ to groups like hospital patients, nursing home residents, and Meals on Wheels recipients.
Doby said this is the fourth year Neal and Jean’s Flowers has participated in the event. Teleflora furnished the keepsake ‘be happy’ mugs and Neal and Jean’s Flowers, as well as other vendors, provided the florals and plants.
“You can tell they truly appreciate it,” Doby said. “It always brings a smile to their face.”
He said more than 130 bouquets were delivered Tuesday in Sapulpa
