Former Memorial coach Richard Eddy remembered for toughness, love for kids

Right off hand, I don’t know of anyone else who is doing this,” he said. Born in Warner in 1929, Eddy grew up on a farm near Checotah and played football for the Wildcats, starting as a freshman and receiving All-State honors as a senior. He went to the University of Tulsa on scholarship and played two years before joining the Navy. Eddy served on three submarines during the Korean War and also played two years for a Navy service football team. He returned to play one year of football at Northeastern State University while earning his bachelor’s degree, and went on to complete his master’s degree in education. Eddy leaves behind his wife of some 55 years, the former Laura Faye Trimm, along with two brothers, three daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow. A lunch reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer direct donations to the Alzheimers Association of Oklahoma, 2448 E. 81st Street, Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137 (www.alz.org/oklahoma). (Tulsa World)
