Hodges Gardens rose bushes moved to Cypress Bend Park

Roses from Hodges Gardens are replanted at a new memorial garden owned by the Sabine River Authority on Toledo Bend.That’s not to say there was an effort to keep the Gardens open. There were talks between the foundation and Sabine River Authority and also the foundation and Friends group.“These proposals were unsuccessful due to the parties being unable to find common ground on what it would take to operate the Gardens,” the Friends’ Facebook post states. “The foundation has made it clear it ‘has no interest in resuming operation of the Gardens in whole or in part.’”Still, those who cared about the Gardens were interested in a way to save the roses that were a part of drawing thousands to the property. So approximately 180 rose bushes have been relocated from there to a memorial garden at the SRA-owned Cypress Bend Park.“It is a work in progress.
