'Holland' wows attendees at Flower Show

In the center of the main exhibition room, Maya Monroe, 6, of Overbrook Park, peered over a wooden bridge railing onto a bed of white tulips, green grass, and a waterway. It was the Lamberton Elementary kindergartner's first show, as it was for her mom, Dana Monroe. "The displays are beautiful," the mother said as a less-enthused Maya, butterfly wand in hand, said she was tired and wanted to go home.Maya's grandmother, Susie Young, said this year's show gave her ideas on planting succulents and sedum in the front yard of her North Wales home. "These are plants you can't kill," she said with a laugh, confessing she's not the best gardener.A short distance away, at the entrance of the Ecodome exhibit, one person after another stepped into giant yellow clogs decorated with a circular swirl of orange and red while a friend or family member took a photo."I thought it was playful," said Jennifer Gubernick, of Bryn Mawr, after she stepped out of the clogs. The graphic designer, who works at an events company, said she liked this year's "broad" theme over something "kitschy" like 2015's show, which featured Disney characters.Walking into the Ecodome, a 3,500-square-foot, igloo-shaped exhibit featuring Dutch-grown plants and showcasing the Netherlands' sustainable technologies, Susan Kane spotted people sitting in what looked like a basket in the middle of the exhibit. "Oh, look!" she exclaimed to her friend Jennifer Lynn. "That's what we are in! A hot-air balloon!""That's spectacular, really," Kane said.The two friends from Mercer County, N.J., wore green shamrock stickers on their cheeks to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. They originally planned to take SEPTA's Regional Rail into Philadelphia, but gave up after spending about an hour at the West Trenton station and hearing multiple announcements about delays. A Salvation Army volunteer was reportedly stealing money from the collection bucket outside a grocery store. She said she had simply dropped her gum in the bucket and was trying to get it out with a back scratcher. Chicken was thrown at a man’s truck some time overnight, and someone stabbed one of his tires, causing it to go flat. Not far from the house, police located three empty, 10-pound bags of boneless, skinless chicken. A man on Como Park Boulevard said three dogs got loose and were chasing him while he tried to drive away on his riding lawn mower. A Doat Street resident told police that $20 of his “weed money” had been stolen. A man was found asleep at the wheel of a running car in the “no parking” zone of an Elma business. Massachusetts officer delivers flowers to woman instead of ticket

But it didn’t leave me. “Sometimes I do want to, but I get hung up on it because I’m like, ‘Will they think it’s weird?” Later, Catatao called a local florist and ordered a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to the woman and her family in Winchester. “I’m very sorry to hear about your mother”. “I hope you find comfort in knowing she lived a long life and will continue to live in your heart and in your memories, signed the officer who pulled you over this morning”, Robin reads the note. “For her to go out of her way for someone who was having kind of a tough day, it was just wonderful”, she said. “I couldn’t imagine the pain she was feeling”. “It’s just me being a human being”.
