Feb. 1, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Bob was born in Rochelle to Edward and Ella (Schlie) Eckhardt. He married Jacqueline Beardsley on June 6, 1959 in Steward.He is preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline, on May 28, 2014; and sisters, Ruth Ellis, Ester Wetzel, Eleanor Kinn and Phyllis Hoffman.Most knew Bob as their friendly neighborhood U.S. Post Office mail carrier, where he worked for 38 years. After retirement, he enjoyed serving as the crossing guard at Tilton School. Bob was a member of the Rochelle Masonic Horicon Lodge #244 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.Bob is survived by a son, Camden (Melissa) Eckhardt of Farmersville; daughter, Meradith (Kyle) Peart of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; sisters, Betty Baker of Loves Park, Bernice Richardson of Rochelle, and Bernita Freeman of Rockford; five grandchildren, Lindsey (Tim) Bejster, Jacob Eckhardt, Phoenix Eckhardt, Cooper Peart and step-grandson, Derek Peart; and two great-grandchildren, Allison Bejster and Haven Eckhardt. Unger-Horner Funeral Home assisted the family with cremation rites. Bob had requested no services, but in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Serenity Hospice in Oregon.Visit... Kathy Murray ’82 of Billerica, Massachusetts, Valerie Scott of Blandon, Pennsylvania, Roberta Kruse of Warwick, New York and a nephew, Casey Kruse of Ardsley, New York. He is also survived by his adopted family, Thon Chen, his wife Sopheak, and their children Vatana and Verek.
A wake for Fr. Kruse will be held on Tuesday, January 5 from 7 – 9 pm in the Chapel of Mary with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 6 in the Chapel of Mary. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery on campus.
