Cal Poly's 2020 Rose Parade float among the first in the lineup - KEYT

Americans watching from home. "It is very exciting," said Sydney Strong, president of the team at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. "We've never been so close to the beginning of the route. The entire team is very excited to have this opportunity, and we hope that we get to share our float with all those watching the parade. There are a few nerves with being so close to the front of the parade, but I think that this doesn't necessarily place more pressure on us — just gets us a bit more excited!" Cal Poly has played a large role in the Rose Parade. It has the sixth highest number of appearances, behind only the cities of Los Angeles, South Pasadena, Alhambra, Burbank, and Sierra Madre. Florist My Violet Has Moved to Rosebery – And Its Studio Is More Beautiful Than Ever - Broadsheet

The orders eventually became too much to handle from her south Sydney home, so she and husband Baramet Dejvongsa sold their house to move closer to the city centre. They found a Redfern hole-in-the-wall studio with potential, and they lived out the back while getting on their feet. Dejvongsa built the workbenches and installed the shelving himself. “My husband has always been my biggest supporter, and was the one to suggest that I start my own business,” Perez says fondly. “We did what we could to make it all happen – to make a dream come true and last.” Still, the business continued to grow and the space became too small to keep up with orders. Often they would spill out onto the footpath out front. The kitchen and bathroom became makeshift workstations. After seven years in Redfern, it became clear they needed a bigger space – which is how they ended up in the new Rosebery studio. “It’s so beautiful and has so much light. We had a vision and knew we’d be spending a lot of time here, so we wanted to make it a comfortable and happy environment,” says Perez. Aside from the flowers, there are ribbons and craft paper on the shelves, a plush blue couch in the centre, and colourful vases for sale. The high ceiling also allows for a loft, which is installed with tables and chairs for consultations on custom orders. The wooden workbenches pushed up against the wall give visitors a clear view of Perez’s growing team at work on arrangements and bouquets. The blooms are sourced from the Sydney Flower Market in Flemington, and different flowers and varieties are available depending on the season. “There’s no season we don’t like, because each brings a surprise of what’s new,” says Perez. “A wise woman once said to me, ‘A good florist can make something out of nothing’, so really all seasons bring out beautiful options.” My Violet 603 Botany Road, Rosebery 0499 901 828 Hours Mon to Fri 9am–3pm ...

A Rose Float tale that went swimmingly - Mustang News

Aquatic Aspirations.” Industrial engineering senior and president of the Rose Float program Sydney Strong said she hopes to carry last year’s momentum and bring out another innovative float. In the 130th anniversary of the parade last year, the two schools took home the Extraordinaire Award with the space-themed float “Far Out Frequencies.” “With ‘Aquatic Aspirations’ we are leaning towards a more elegant style than what Cal Poly is typically known for, which is fun and different,” Strong wrote in an email to Mustang News. This year will mark Strong’s fourth year as a part of the Rose Float Program and her first year as its president after acting as decorations chairman last year. “I am really hoping to facilitate a smooth year with a lot of fun for our team in addition to having a wonderful float,” Strong wrote. From designing the structure to putting the final touches on the flowers, the entire process takes about 15 months, according to Strong. “With our underwater scene this year, it’s going to be challenging to get the floating effect of undersea life,” Strong wrote. Working with Cal Poly Pomona has proved to be a great experience, according to Strong. “This is a really positive experience in...

Sidney Crosby fan turns front lawn into a floral 87

Conrod. "He's been great to the people of Cole Harbour."After her grandson mowed the shape of Sydney Crosby's number 87 into her lawn, Jeannie Conrod filled it in using yellow flowers. (Paul Palmeter/CBC)Conrod said she was feeling a little stressed earlier this week after Nashville easily won games 3 and 4 to tie the series. Then her cable was on the fritz and she was worried she wouldn't be able to watch Game 5. A neighbour "did something" to her TV to give her a temporary fix, she said.Conrod is hoping Crosby and his Pittsburgh team mates can wrap up the series when it resumes Sunday night. She said she'll leave her giant yellow 87 alone for at least a few weeks. (
