NORTH ARLINGTON — A representative of the family of 47-year-old Luisa Pleger, who police allege was killed by her husband in the apartment the two shared, said Saturday that the couple had no history of domestic violence.

“She was dedicated to her husband. Dedicated,” said Jenny Galofre, who spoke for the family Saturday in part because Pleger’s mother and father are fluent only in Spanish. She said they were “devastated” by the death of their daughter.

Galofre also said Eric Pleger had a history of depression and was on medication for the condition.

Police charged Pleger, 45, with murder Friday after finding his wife’s body in the apartment, apparently at least a day after she died.

LYNDHURST - Parishioners at two Southern Bergen County churches, and a few others in neighboring communities, are waiting for the return of baby Jesus figurines, stolen from their Nativity scenes. Authorities report that the thefts at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Lyndhurst and Queen of Peace Church in North Arlington both occurred either on Christmas or the following day.
Sacred Heart Church reported on Dec. 26 that its Jesus statue from its display on Ridge Road had been stolen. It had last been seen on Christmas Day. The statue was valued at approximately $50, said Lyndhurst Police Capt. John Valente.
