N.J. lawmaker pushing to expand window guard laws after child's fatal fall in Jersey City

Hudson County that have fallen out of windows: On Aug. 31, 2009, a 4-year-old boy fell from the kitchen window of his second floor apartment in Bayonne. He suffered injuries to his forehead, shoulder, and ribs, and was released from the hospital later that day. A 4-year-old girl fell 25-feet from a Winfield Avenue building in Jersey City on Feb. 10, 2010. The girl was not injured in the incident, because snowfall from that day cushioned her fall into the backyard. On Mar. 27, 2012, a 2-year-old fell two stories out a window on Lincoln Street in Jersey City. The child was in serious condition after the fall, which appeared to be accidental, police said at the time of the incident. On June 25, 2013, two children, ages 3 and 5, fell 25 feet from their third-floor apartment in North Bergen. The building manager had stated the children were talking to the only other two children that lived in the building below them when the screen they were leaning up against broke. On Nov. 20, 2013, a 20-month-old baby boy fell out of a third floor window in Jersey City. The boy's father told police he was making a meal for his son at their Armstrong Avenue apartment sometime after 10 p.m. When he heard crying, he returned to the boy's room and found the window had been open and his son had fallen three stories to the ground. He was in critical but stable condition two days after the accident. (NJ.com)
