Craftsman style home with the California Registry of Historical Resources. Seasonal décor is by Margit Holakoui. Allendale Road – Rose trees line a serpentine brick walkway leading up to this lovely Tudor Revival home. The home, which was originally built for Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Potter in 1924, is listed in the California Registry of Historical Resources, because of its fine design and state of preservation. The present owners worked with architect Davie Serrurier to remodel the kitchen, the back room and expand the dining room.The back patio encircles a sinuous Chinese Elm and opens out onto a lush yard, an inviting pool and a guest house, complete with high ceilings, a skylight and an intriguing loft. The back yard oasis and surrounding garden of the property includes oak leaf hydrangeas, lavender star flowers and foxgloves. Drew Domenghini decorated the home with floral festivities, with Patterson’s topiaries, pots and teas. Lomita Drive – This traditional architecture-colonial style home was originally built in 1937 for Morris Mill, the founder of Bamico Nursery, located where Armstrong Nursery stands today. As you enter the spacious living room, note the Portuguese needlepoint carpet, commissioned by the owners in 1970. The room includes by a variety of artwork, such as a collection of Tang dynasty ceramics, a stone, 17th century, Thai Buddhist torso and a clay Bayon period head, anchored by a beautiful grand piano in the corner. The dining room walls are wrapped in a panoramic scene of Kew Gardens, which was created by artist George Horton and makes you feel folded into a garden-surround. This machine-printed, wall covering was manufactured in 1920s England and perfectly complements the English dining table and chairs. These are just a few of the artifacts from a lifetime of travels lovingly collected by the owners and displayed throughout the home. This year’s contemporary creations are by Jacob Maarse. Bradford Street – This colonial-style home, built in 1931 by renowned architect Palmer Sabin, is a perfect example of early California design. Set in a park-like setting in the southwest district of Pasadena., the home incorporates many design details original to that period. Des Plaines florist remembered for his charitable works for children

Foundation and Kirk School, both in Palatine; Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge; Vista Health System and Kids Hope United in Waukegan; Allendale Association in Lake Villa; Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville; Nicasa in Round Lake; and food pantries at CEDA Northwest in Mount Prospect and at Wheeling Township in Arlington Heights. Harney got into the floral business during college. He worked his way through school by designing and delivering flowers for a Chicago florist. He opened his own shop in 1962; Harney named it Aberdeen's Wedding Flowers so it would be the first florist listed in the phone book. His love of flowers, especially international varieties, landed him jobs on high-profile weddings, including Michael Daley, son of Mayor Richard J. Daley, and Tricia Nixon's wedding in the White House. According to family members, Harney landed the wedding for Tiny Tim -- best known for his song "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" -- by ordering all the tulips available from the Holland Tulip Exchange before the wedding, which was set to air on NBC's "The Tonight Show." When NBC's florist couldn't get tulips, Harney's persistence convinced network officials to give him the job. He filled the studio with thousands of yellow and white tulips for the ceremony, and the ensuing publicity helped the business soar. But it was his final years of helping disadvantaged children that gave Harney the most pleasure. Harney talked about his annual mission to provide toys and joy to sick children in a 2012 Daily Herald interview. "Their stories are unbelievable," Harney said. Barry Keefe 1953-2016

WNIL while still in high school. He continued in radio at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, and later worked for stations in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At WCLR (and later WTMX), he headed what at one time was a five-person news department. By the time he left, (“the curtain came down unexpectedly,” was the way he phrased it), Keefe was the news department. He also hosted numerous public-affairs programs, including the weekly “Insight.” He went on to teach sound engineering at Illinois Institute of Art from 2010 to 2014. Keefe is survived by his wife, Kathy, and sons Alex and Aidan. In lieu of flowers, donations to support Aidan’s education at Boston’s Berklee College of Music will be accepted by Taylor Schlichter at Charles Schwab & Co. at (847) 441-1908 or at www.ugift529.com. Cherry Hill a cappella group ready to 'Pitch Slap' competition

Cherry Hill a cappella group Stay Tuned will go head-to-head with in-state rival The Voices, from Allendale on Lifetime's new reality docuseries "Pitch Slapped," set to debut Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. The show gives viewers an inside look at the competitive world of a cappella singing and offers a glimpse into the lives of the Cherry Hill teens as they prepare for competition. Lifetime gave the go-ahead to the new reality show in May. Members of Stay Tuned were given a chance to work with the world's best coaches and face off in weekly competition. The 21-member group, comprised of former and current Cherry Hill High School East students, formed in 2013 and has become one of New Jersey’s top high school a cappella groups. Other than school concerts, Stay Tuned performs at local synagogues and holiday events and has competed in the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA) where they came in second place behind The Voices. Senior Jack Tremper was surprised when producers asked the group to apply for the show. "Producers had to interview a lot of schools in the area and a lot listed us as their top competition. After submitting a video, they came out to watch us perform, do solos, and it went on from there" said Tremper. The rehearsal and filming schedule started in May and lasted into the summer, making it difficult for members to focus on their schoolwork. The schedule called for members to spend five to six hours a week after school, returning home sometimes after midnight and staying up later to finish their homework.
