Argentina president places memorial flowers at NYC bike path

The tribute came as mourners in New Jersey attended the funeral of another victim, 32-year-old Darren Drake, of New Milford, New Jersey. De Blasio said New York City will always welcome visitors from all over the world and won't forget the victims of the attack. "Mr. President, we will forever remember them as New Yorkers," he told Macri. The bodies of the five Argentines killed arrived Monday in Rosario, about 185 miles (300 kilometers) northwest of Buenos Aires. The hearses carrying the caskets of Hernan Ferrucchi, Alejandro Pagnucco, Hernan Mendoza, Ariel Erlij and Diego Angelini were escorted by police cars to local funeral homes. For three decades, they had kept close through marriages, trips and jobs. Some had played soccer and volleyball together as children, and as grown-ups, they often would meet for traditional Argentine barbecues known as asados. "These were known people in our city who were joined by a strong affection bond, which is highly valued by our community," said Gustavo Zignago, a Rosario official. "The idea is to be with them until the very end and to give them the best farewell." —— Associated Press writers Hernan Alvarez and Paul Byrne in Rosario, Argentina, and Almudena Calatrava in Buenos Aires, contributed to this report. German man flies girlfriend 3945 miles from Germany for breakfast in Milford for her birthday

MILFORD >> Thomas Grubmueller said his longtime girlfriend is hard to buy for, so for her 32nd birthday, he flew them in from Germany so they could have breakfast at one of her favorite eateries, “The Corner” restaurant at 105 River St. The couple, who live in the Bavaria area, flew into New York where they stayed for a couple of days, then rented a car to drive on her birthday Tuesday morning to one of Milford’s most popular gourmet breakfast and brunch spots. Grubmueller told his girlfriend, Martina Duemler, they were going to America for breakfast — she fell in love with the restaurant during a New England road trip last year — but she had no idea how special restaurant owner Michelle Lebel was going to make it after exchanging secret emails with Grubmueller before the trip. He asked Lebel to create a birthday look and buy a cake for which he would reimburse her. When Duemler walked in to the cozy eatery Tuesday morning, the couple were brought to a specially set long table... (New Haven Register)

Danbury Middle-Schooler Blooms With Floral Accessories Business

Her greatest challenge is balancing her business with her schoolwork and other interests. She’s a top gymnast at Elite Gymnastics Center in New Milford and qualified to compete in the 2017 State Games of America in July in Grand Rapids, Mich. Ziya has also studied dance and currently practices from online tutorials to keep her skills fresh. “I push through it,” she said, referring to her busy schedule. “Sometimes, I’m up very late at night, working on orders.” Her advice for other young people who want to pursue their own business is “to never give up and follow what your heart says,” Ziya said. She started making flowers when she was 9, putting together hairpieces for her family, teachers and friends. Ziya started the business by borrowing $25 from her mother to purchase supplies and later paid her back from her profits. “I'm trying to get her to understand how money works,” Malakah Shabazz-Williams said. “So her profit from her business is always divided into three parts — save, spend and invest.” To get ideas for new designs, Ziya looks at bridal magazines, goes to bridal shows and watches the popular cable show “Say Yes To The Dress.” She hopes to one day to be in the fashion industry with her own line of gymnastics gear and dancewear. New Garden Center Opens in Milford

By Terry Rogers Bruce Fisher, owner of Milford Plant and Garden Center, said that this will be a new venture for him, despite having ten years in the plant industry. Since his knowledge is in plants and landscaping, he and his wife, Diane, have partnered with the owners of Country Flowers who have been in the florist business for more than 30 years. The new business will take over where Gooden’s Florist operated for more than 70 years. “The property itself really had great potential to host not only a professional florist, but with the existing greenhouses, an outbuilding and over an acre of land for the addition of a nursery and garden center,” Mr. Fisher said. “Additionally, the accessibility of the property is excellent, convenient to Route 113, Route 1 and downtown Milford all at the same time. It is a quick and easy stop on your way to or from work, or while headed out for lunch, dinner or coffee and it is a short little detour to check us out during a trip to one of the larger retail stores in Milford.” The new plant...
