Hampstead officer, 38, succumbs to cancer
HAMPSTEAD — A police cruiser sits outside the Peabody Funeral Home on Birch Street in Derry. It was there Monday and Tuesday; it will still be there come Thursday and Friday.
The cruiser and the officer inside may change day-to-day, but the purpose does not. All the officers — hailing from departments in Manchester, Derry, Londonderry, Windham, and most importantly, Hampstead — are mourning the loss of one of their own, Officer Matthew Moore.
Matt, a veteran of the Marine Corps and a cop for more than 10 years, died of brain cancer Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester with his wife, Terri, by his side. He was just 38 years old.
His colleagues remember Officer Moore as a family man, through and through.
Whether it was his wife and daughters or his law enforcement family — which extended from Hampstead to Sandown, Pelham and Windham — Matt was dedicated to and cared for by them all.

• Christopher Lloyd’s Gardening Year Journal - Frances Lincoln Publishing; £14.99
Christopher Lloyd died in 2006 but fascination about his planting schemes and gardening techniques live on.
He was one of Britain’s best-known gardeners and garden writers, and his creation at Great Dixter in East Sussex remains a site of pilgrimage for many professional gardeners and garden writers even now.
This is partly thanks to head gardener Fergus Garrett, who is imbued with the spirit of Christopher Lloyd and has written an introduction to the book.
The month-by-month analysis of what grows well at Great Dixter, why different plants are chosen and how to grow them is invaluable to anybody hoping to create a great garden for themself.
