Obituary: Everett A. Davis - Lewiston Sun Journal
He grew up in Auburn, graduated from Edward Little High School and Gorham State Teachers College, and earned graduate degrees in education at Indiana University. He was a retired professor of education at the University of Southern Maine, a devoted Bible scholar and teacher, and a gifted and lifelong athlete. He was cherished as a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal and generous mentor and friend. Wherever he went, he strove to lift the spirits of others. His motto: “We win.” Everett is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith; his children Michael (Kristin) Davis and Dyana (Paul) Dubay; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Gertrude Davis; his sister Olive, his brothers Norman (Bud), Charles, and William (Bill), who was killed in action at Iwo Jima. A celebration of Everett’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at Spring Meadows Country Club, 59 Lewiston Rd., in Gray, with lunch following. Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., meeting directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, with a funeral mass. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers contributions, may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society , Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research , or to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

Organizers nip 2016 Portland Flower Show in the bud
Association. “As an organization, we’re always looking for opportunities to market ourselves, beyond the show.”
Jeff O’Donal of O’Donal’s Nursery in Gorham believes the show will come back, in some form. Portland-area flower shows have been held for about 30 years, with other groups besides Portland Yacht Services running them from time to time. The show has had more than 100 vendors in a year, including landscape companies and nurseries, and more than a dozen garden exhibits, plus lectures and talks by experts in various areas of gardening.
“Our participation in the show was never one where we expected a direct return,” O’Donal said. “We basically want people to say, ‘Oh, you have more unique plants than anyone else.’ It’s a nice thing, but we have other ways to advertise and get people to know us.”
