Long-time Flowers leader Ebert passes

Former Crossville business leader Larry Ebert Sr. passed away Saturday. He was 71 years old. Ebert was born Jan. 10, 1945, in Winston Salem, NC. He began his 30-plus year baking career working with various bakeries in North Carolina and Virginia in the 1970s. In 1983, he joined Flowers Bakery when the company purchased Fox Quality Baking in Emporia, VA. That year, he served as president of Flowers’ distribution operation in Petersburg, VA. He moved to Crossville in 1985 to serve as president there. He soon became active in his new community, attending Central Baptist Church and taking a leadership role in the Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce, serving on the board of directors. He retired from Crossville’s bakery operation in 2004. At that time, Ebert was praised for his countless contributions to the company, with company leaders adding, “The success of our Crossville operation today is directly linked to the leadership and direction that Larry has provided for the past 20 years.” Ebert leaves behind his wife, Annie Ebert, of Crossville; son, Larry Ebert Jr. and wife, Jessica, of Jefferson, GA... Bill Pace, trombone player and loyal Rotarian, dies at 93

Karen Davis and her husband Gene of Mills River, and two sons; Bill Pace, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Raleigh, and Terry Pace and his wife Becky of Winston Salem, two brothers; Roy Lee Johnson and his wife Peggy of East Flat Rock,  and Robert Johnson and his wife Barbara of Woodruff, SC and one sister; Julia Ann Mullis and her husband Jake of Macon, Ga. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews plus several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial bonations may be made to the Rotary Club of Hendersonville – Charitable Corporation at P.O. Box 901, Hendersonville, NC 28793 or of the donor’s choice.
