Doors to Christmas wreath, tree auction raises $3200

Doors to Christmas was sponsored by local State Farm agents Pam Neely, Kay Lewis and Dawn Newland. O’Roke Apartments Inc. sponsored the wreaths.Jimmy Edwards of Edwards Auction Services donated his time to handle the bidding. He was assisted by his son, Duke, and brothers Floyd and Jake Kursey.Mike Hoffmaster of Martinsburg, who had been in a bidding war with Lewis for the City National Bank wreath, was the high bidder for one of the trees, spending $300 for a tree donated by Kay Lewis State Farm Agency.“It’s for a good cause,” Hoffmaster said. “It’s going to sit in my living room. It’s my Christmas tree. I don’t have to decorate one.”The tree was decked out in subdued burgundy ribbons and ornaments.Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments from Martin’s Distributing were served before the auction began, and the entertainment was supplied by the Berkeley County Public Schools Strings Program orchestra. At Monday’s Jingle Downtown, which was sponsored by Main Street Martinsburg, $3,000 was raised for Christmas Cash for Kids. Florence Daniels Pittman

Florence Daniels Pittman, 81, of Newland, N.C., passed away on Dec. 26, 2015, at her residence. A native of Avery County, she was born September 21, 1934, a daughter of the late Sam Rhyne and Virgie Trivette. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Newland and was a retired beautician. Florence was a loving and kind woman who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She loved traveling the United States with her husband, Chub. Along with her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her sisters, Margie Carpenter and Helen Collis; and a brother, Dennis Trivette. Florence has left to cherish her memory her husband of 40 years, John “Chub” Pittman of the home; children, Sam Eller, and his wife, Connie, of Powdermill, Doug Eller, and his wife, Susan, of Granite Falls, Harold Lee of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Lisa Daniels, and her husband, Bobby, of Newland, Tim Farthing, and his wife, Wendy, of Newland; brothers, Jerry Trivette of Newland, Joe Trivette, and his wife, Priscilla, of Newland, Ronnie Trivette and his wife, S...
