Community friend Shela Moffett-Fabri at Rion Flowers and Gifts passes away

Tuesday night. Shela Moffett-Fabri will be remembered by many for multiple reasons.Shela Moffett-Fabri with Rion Flowers and Gifts in Murfreesboro, Tennessee had stage four colon cancer. She had been battling the disease for the past three years. Despite her situation, she never gave up and actually encouraged others to do more.One of the many things that Shela did in recent years was the organizing and hosting of a giant soccer tournament to help multiple people who are up against the fearsome word of cancer. The fundraiser called "Kicking Cancer Mid-TN" was geared towards helping people financially that have costly treatment bills in front of them while out of work.Why Soccer?Shela was a big fan of soccer and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. Moffett-Fabri played soccer in the 1990's at the Lees-McRae College in North Carolina. She later graduated in 1993 and appeared in 61 women's soccer matches during her time at LMC.According to the College, the Bobcats were a dominant force with her on the team as they produced a 63-17-1 record. Main Street Murfreesboro's monthly FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE drew another crowd to the east side of the courthouse with the music of Entice. A gentle breeze with temps in the 80s made for a fun evening. Executive Director Kathleen Herzog said, "Main Street enjoys bringing people to our historic square, so they can enjoy the past. Flowers chosen for European event

Right after she gets back from Europe, Flowers has been invited to attend a camp put on by Ole Miss at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro.After five days at home, she will then head to North Carolina for a camp at Gardner-Webb University, a D-I school.“The Gardner-Webb coach (Leo Sayles) has been very honest with us,” remarked the elder Flowers. “He feels Emma could be a stud at the D-II?level pretty much right away, but it might take her until her junior year to reach that level at D-I.“This trip she is going on will help her as she is getting to play with a much higher level of competition.“As a coach I’m excited for her, but as a mom, I can’t help but worry about the trip.”“I’m going to meet two of the girls in Atlanta and we’re going to fly down to Orlando to meet up with the rest of the team to fly out to Europe,” Emma explained.“It’s not only my first trip (abroad), but I’m going with a group of girls I’ve never met before, so I’m a little nervous, but I’m also very excited to get to go,” she assessed.By the time she gets back and attends the camps she has scheduled, it will be time for the Flowers tandem to get to work preparing for the high school volleyball season, which will tip off in mid-August.
