Dec 10, 2020With flowers, Bellagio Garden creates ‘Hopeful Holidays’ - Las Vegas Review-Journal
Bellagio work tirelessly to create and bring to life five themed displays throughout the year,” said Ed Libby, who designed the display. “For our final display of 2020, we wanted to deliver a sense of joy and beauty to every person who visits, hoping each guest heads home with a beautiful new memory to share with loved ones as we head into a promising new year.”
The tree is crowned with a new Swarovski crystal tree topper while a playful five-car toy train circles the base of the tree.
The ice queen’s couture-inspired gown is trimmed in fresh everlasting roses and crystals. Accompanying her is a family of Coca-Cola polar bears.
In the north garden, guests will find an ornamental egg set in a fountain of flowing water and surrounded by a bed of Poinsettia flowers. The egg’s jewel-encrusted doors are open, revealing a pair of red cardinals set in a snowy winter scene.
The queen’s European-themed carriage embellished with jewels and two pearl-curtained windows presents a photo opportunity in the east garden.
The south bed pays homage to the Bellagio team responsible for the conservatory. Each whimsical elf is working hard to create a magical experience like the talented, hard-working Bellagio designers, decorators, engineers, electricians, florists and gardeners.
Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is complimentary to the public and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “Hopeful Holidays” will be on display through Jan. 9.
In order to create a comfortable and safer environment for our guests, the following health and safety measures have been implemented in how the conservatory will be experienced:
All guests will enter the conservatory through a dedicated entryway; floor markers and employees will guide guests through the correct path.
The number of guests allowed within the conservatory at one time will be closely monitored by operations and security. When the space reaches capacity, guests will queue.
The Bellagio team sta...
Feb 27, 2020Valentine's Day isn't all roses for Santa Fe florists - Santa Fe New Mexican
Arana said with a laugh. An upbeat attitude, she said, is mandatory this time of year.“Working this much, you have to laugh all the time,” agreed Libby Hamilton of Las Cruces, who has worked at Rodeo Plaza Flowers during Valentine’s week for the past five years. After the shop closes at 5:30 p.m., Hamilton said, employees crank up the radio, dance around the petal-covered floors and eat some sort of takeout food while prepping final orders for the big day.Nora Ramsey, the shop’s owner for more than 30 years, said she had more than 50 deliveries scheduled for Thursday, with another 160 on Friday and an additional 30 that needed to be ready for pickup.“And that’s not counting the rush that comes in of procrastinators,” she said with a chuckle.Compared to a typical week, when Rodeo Plaza Flowers sells about 300 roses, this week could top out at 4,000, Ramsey said. The florists were reluctant to pinpoint the exact percentage Valentine’s Day plays in a year’s sales. Ramsey said that “the revenue on Valentine’s Day is very high,” though she added operation costs also are higher than usual. In addition to pricier orders — wholesalers know they can mark up the prices — she always has to hire five extra flower designers and a handful of contracted delivery people. To make sure the arrangements are fresh, everything has to be completed no more than one day before the orders are due.“It’s a really time-sensitive business,” said Pacific Floral Design owner Devan Barron. “That’s the curse.”While Barron and his staff were “a step ahead” Thursday, he acknowledged it would be difficult to keep up on Friday, a day with more than 50 deliveries, not counting last-minute requests, for his small staff to complete. He said he planned to shut off his phone Friday and only accept online orders at that point.“People just don’t realize how much work goes into it,” said Amanda Schutz, owner of the one-woman-production All The Pretty Flowers.Like other florists, Schutz said she preordered flowers at least one month before the holiday — an already tricky endeavor because the exact order count is never certain. Once flowers arrive, florists must store them at the proper temperature — typically between 33 and 38 degrees — and schedule deliveries according to requested drop-off times and locations.Arranging the flowers is the more creative part of the Valentine’s rus...

“I want our garden to be a tranquil escape and be bird and bee friendly,” Morrison said. “We have tried to focus on native perennials, bee-friendly plants, hardy and easy to care for plants. I love hydrangea-like blossoms, so I have a few varieties and purple flowers.”

The Clemons enjoy gardening for the beauty and because they find it a relaxing, peaceful activity. They also enjoy the challenge each season offers. The front garden is highlighted with a berm featuring low-growing evergreen shrubs interspersed with perennial “Iris cristata,” a ground cover. Annuals provide color. The front walkway features perennial wintercreeper (Euonymus) ground cover and boxwood shrubs.

The backyard has a mix of spirea, cypress, hydrangeas, viburnum and shady perennials. Wintercreeper is featured around the sitting patio. The fenced cutting garden contains a mixture of sunny perennials and many annuals started mostly from seed. Zinnias are a favorite feature because of the bright color and because they are a great cutting flower. Living next door to Hickory Hill Park, deer are constant visitors, so outside the fence the Clemons have planted deer resistant species.

Japan’s rich and vibrant culture with elements that make for a journey of the senses.Designer Ed Libby and the Bellagio Horticulture team envisioned the display and brought it to life with time-honored Japanese customs. For three decades, Ed Libby & Company Events has designed majestic floral-and-crystal compositions for recording artists, actors and companies across the U.S., including “The Wall Street Concert Series” featuring Beyonce, Kanye West and Las Vegas headliners Sir Rod Stewart and Lionel Richie.Ed’s company also has created multiple installations for the annual Macy’s Flower Show in Herald Square. Most recently, he brought his expertise and artistic touch to MGM National Harbor, the new casino resort outside Washington, D.C., with a series of seasonal displays that will be on show throughout 2017.Visitors enter Bellagio Conservatory through a 25-foot Torii Gate adorned in pink-and-white lotus flowers. Capturing guests’ attention at the entryway is a 35-foot Kabuki character rising from a 60-foot-wide pink lotus flower. Comprised of 5,000 flowers, the Kabuki figure holds a 25-foot-tall Samurai sword symbolizing power and protection in one hand and a 4-foot-wide white pearl symbolizing prosperity and beauty in the o... Dec 2, 2016Acacia Flowers in Wells closes doors blaming supermarkets, market stalls and the internet
There's just too much competition around now, with all the supermarkets in the area and the market stalls," said Libby Grinnell. "Plus it's so easy for people to buy flowers online.
"It's such a shame, but I feel I have no choice but to take this decision. I've noticed a gradual decline in customers over the past six years and the business just isn't viable any more."
The closure leaves Lynnsey Kelly Flowers on Priest Row as the only independent florist in Wells, and comes just weeks after interior furnishers Poppy Greens closed the Broad Street side of its store to focus on a smaller property on Queen Street.
It also comes as M&S announced it plans to close 30 clothes shops over the next five years and covert another 30 into food only stores. The news casts uncertainty on outlets in Street, Yeovil and Weston-super-Mare.
