Funeral Arrangements Made for Bill Marsh Sr.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Bill Marsh Sr., a well-known Traverse City businessman who passed away last week. Visitation for Marsh will be held Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the St. Francis Catholic Church. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. at the church. A visitation will be held at 10am on Thursday at the church, with a funeral mass taking place at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the Marsh family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Munson Hospice or Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools. (MI News 26)

Fantastic weather coming for Michigan's explosion of color from tulips, cherries

Michigan will love that weather. Tulip Time runs from Saturday, May 7, to May 14 in downtown Holland. The Traverse City area cherry blossoms are also about to erupt with color. Cool nights and near normal temperature days are just what we want for a long display of color from these two spring performers. Gwen Auwerda, Executive Director of Tulip Time in Holland, MI says tulip blossoms can last up to 21 days if high heat is avoided. Auwerda says most of the tulips in Holland, MI are at peak right now, with some of the late bloomers expected to peak next week. The peak blooming is right on time for the Tulip Time festival. Auwerda says nights in the 40s and days in the 60s will let the tulips keep their flowers three weeks. If we hit 80°, the blooms don't last very long. In that warm scenario the blooms only last a few days. Experience northern Michigan's spring wildflower show

TRAVERSE CITY — Warm, sun-filled days coax the region’s spring wildflowers from the earth for the brief annual show. Several hikes guided by local wildflower whisperers provide opportunity to experience the display within woodlands, wetlands and dunes. Paula Dreeszen leads hikes through the Pete’s Woods section of Arcadia Dunes. Arcadia Dunes, known as C.S. Mott Nature Preserve, is Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy’s largest preserve. The 1.5-mike walk highlights the early cycle in the region’s six-week progression of wildflower blooms. “People so look forward to the change from winter to spring and to all the life popping out,” said Dreeszen.
