Interstate 69 status will be subject of Monday afternoon meeting

Scott Bennett, director of the AHTD and chairman of the I-69 Steering Committee, will talk about the overall status of Interstate 69 from Port Huron, MI, to the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and the status of the interstate in Arkansas. Max LeComte, president and CEO of the Coordinating and Development Corporation of Shreveport, will focus on I-69 activities in Louisiana and East Texas. Questions and comments will be heard from the audience. Future activities of the Arkansas I-69 Coalition will also be discussed. The superhighway will enter Arkansas on a new bridge that will cross the Mississippi River between Benoit, MS and Arkansas City, AR. The road will pass north of McGehee, to Monticello. It will cross the Ouachita River north of El Dorado, and bypass the northwest area of El Dorado. It will cross U.S. 82 between El Dorado and Magnolia, and enter Louisiana just north of Haynesville. At present, the highway will cut through about 11 miles of Southwestern Columbia County, but no highway exits are planned in the county. The only portion of Interstate 69 currently under construction in Arkansas is bypass around Monticello, which will connect with an extension of Interstate 530 from Pine Bluff. (Magnoliareporter)
