Mar 19, 2020Political Analyst Steve Flowers Weighs In On Super Tuesday - Alabama News Network
Tubberville and Byrne have moved significantly. And they’re in a fight to being in a runoff with sessions, probably,” Flowers said.
Jeff Coleman, Troy King, and Jessica Taylor are battling it for the US House District 2 vote, which includes voters across the Wiregrass and central Alabama.Flowers says voters often forget that Montgomery County is split three ways, meaning the majority of District Two’s votes don’t come from Montgomery County.
“Montgomery is actually fourth. The county of Montgomery is the fourth largest population in that district. The largest part is in Autauga and Elmore,” Flowers said.
With the primary elections drawing closer, Flowers says voters can expect to see several negative ads in a last ditch effort for candidates to gain some voters.
“They’ll come out of the wall in the last week. Whatever resources they have,” Flowers said.

"I'm using triggers, loops, FX and samples to augment my songs and my singing! It’s minimalistic and tasteful–or so I’ve been told,” she laughs.

Jul 26, 2018Mourners leave flowers for duck boat victims as officials probe for answers
They came for vacation and their worst nightmares happened," she said.
That's what brought the Coleman family down from Indianapolis. What was supposed to be a joyful family vacation ended with the deaths of nine relatives from three generations.
The deaths and identities of the family members – including four children under the age of 10 – were confirmed by The Indianapolis Star via family members Friday evening.
"They were very loved," said Ingrid Coleman Douglas in a telephone interview.
The victims included her two uncles, aunt, cousins and their children. "It's a huge family on all sides. It's unimaginable. I would never have thought I would have lost this number of people this way."
Tia Coleman, one of the survivors, told WXIN-TV in Indianapolis that she and a nephew were among the 11 relatives. Coleman says she lost "all my children" but she did not say how many.

She says the captain of the boat told passengers, "Don't worry about grabbing the life jackets – you won't need them." By the time it was clear that life jackets were needed, she says, "it was too late."
The extended Coleman family likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up. Tracy Beck, of Kansas City, Missouri, said she recalled the family members waiting in line. After they stopped for a picture, a ticket taker realized they should have boarded at a different location and reassigned them, the Associated Press reports.
While a severe thunderstorm had hit around the time of the boat's capsizing, causing the 5-foot waves on Table Rock Lake, much of what specifically caused the boat to sink – while other vessels withstood the harsh conditions – is unclear. Teams found the boat sitting upright on its wheels in 80-feet of water.
A second duck boat on the lake in southwest Missouri, about 225 miles southwest of St. Louis, made it safely to shore.
The U.S. military in World War II originally used duck boats to transport troops and supplies, and they were later modified for use as sightseeing vehicles.
Officials at the National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating the accident, said it could be a year or longer before all the answers are found.
NTSD board member Early Weener said investigators would release a preliminary report within a month that could provide some information about wha...

Feb 8, 2018Farewell to Helen Eliason, who leaves a beautiful garden for us all to enjoy
Likewise, the small garden at Goodstay was undergoing its own renewal in the 1920’s when Ellen Coleman du Pont Meeds hired landscape architect Robert Wheelwright, who designed Valley Garden Park, to update the garden. The two later married.Maintaining the characteristic Tudor style, they changed the focus from vegetables and flowers to a completely ornamental garden, with each of six geometric enclosures planted thematically. Helen Eliason and friends followed the original plans for Goodstay Gardens by landscape architect, Robert Wheelwright, for the garden owned by Ellen Coleman du Pont Meeds. It was planted in the early 1900s. (Photo: Courtesy of Moira Sheridan)The main attractions today are what they were in the Wheelwright’s time — a knot garden, rose, iris and peony gardens and the turkey rock garden, where turkeys used to roost. A more naturalistic area known as The Park abuts the formal gardens and the Magnolia Walk and fountain have been updated. In 1968, the property was left to the University of Delaware.Eliason spent time in the garden as a getaway, especially after retirement in the early 1990s from the DuPont Co., where she was in data systems and management. In 1993, determined to rectify the garden’s state of benign neglect, she founded the Friends of Goodstay Gardens to restore them to their 1920s glory. With neighbor and fellow garden enthusiast, Sidney Craven, the two launched a mighty fundraising effort and established a board of directors that gathered a pantheon of local horticultural leaders. Volunteers from local garden clubs and organizations gathered weekly to uncover the treasures hidden under the weeds.“She had an expression that she must have repeated at least once a month — ‘water wears down stone,’” says Craven, remembering Eliason’s ability to deal diplomatically with the university to make changes happen.“I didn’t have the patience, so we were a good team. I would say we spent at least 10 hours a week for 10 years in the garden.” Carol Long, curator of the gardens at Winterthur, who served on the Goodstay board of directors and also helped Eliason in her Wawaset garden for a time, likewise remembers her tenacity. “The Helen who employed me was gentle, easygoing, and kind; it was always an interesting contrast when she became the champion of Goodstay. Don’t get in her way when she sets her mind to something,” she says.meta...
