Oct 21, 2016At statewide garden club meeting, Virginia Beach presents model for wider support of Virginia parks
VIRGINIA BEACH
"A Walk in the Park" was the theme for this year’s Garden Club of Virginia’s 97th annual Board of Governors meeting, hosted by the Princess Anne Garden Club.
And appropriately so.
While Virginia garden clubs have hosted spring Historic Garden Tours since 1929 to raise funds for the restoration of Virginia’s historic gardens, money will now also be directed towards the support of projects in the 36 Virginia state parks. It's in celebration of the upcoming Garden Club of Virginia centennial.
Past and present presidents from the 47 garden clubs in Virginia gathered with the board of directors at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Mayor Will Sessoms declared Oct. 19, 2016, “Garden Club Day in Virginia Beach.”
Princess Anne club members Nancy Baillio and Susan Wight, both North End residents, chaired the Oct. 18-20 event.
“We’re thrilled to show them what we’ve done in our area,” Baillio said.
The approximately 100 women split in two for visits to the Brock Environmental Center and First Landing State Park. There was no walk in the park at First Landing, thanks to Hurricane Matthew, but the guests heard all about... (Virginian-Pilot)

Apr 22, 2016How do you present shop for the Queen?
Arabia.Prince George got a huge haul of presents in 2014, which included a possum-skin cloak from his trip to Australia and New Zealand. That year, Princess Anne got a box of 100 mangoes from President Mamnoon Hussain of Pakistan.Prince Andrew got a model of a surface-to-air missile from MBDA Systems. The Duke of Kent received gifts including a picture of a washing machine. If in doubt, diamonds
Of course it's not all fairy dust and whoopee cushions. The official gift lists show the Queen receives plenty of precious items too.Amongst gifts to the Queen last year, for example, was a sapphire and diamond brooch in the shape of a fern from the president of Sri Lanka. Jewellery was also what Prince Philip gave his bride on their wedding day. He designed her engagement ring, made of 11 diamonds, and her wedding gift bracelet, himself.

Dec 30, 2015Duchess of Cambridge gets flowers on way to church
Also making the short trek from castle to chapel were Prince Charles, the Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his family, and Prince
Andrew accompanied by his eldest daughter Princess Beatrice in a blue coat and high-heeled boots.
Kate accompanied her husband William and brother-in-law Harry to St Mary Magdalene church. Leaving behind her two young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, so she could attend the service yesterday.
It is the traditional post-Christmas royal church appearance. Most of the royals were there, including William’s cousin Zara Phillips, the Queen’s granddaughter in a black-and-white checked coat, accompanied by her husband Mike Tindall.
Her mother, Princess Anne, and grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, walked in front while many lined the roads to catch a glimpse of the Royals on one of the traditional annual outings as a family.
The young royals were joined in the church by the Queen, in cream boucle, who opted not to walk with the rest of the clan but be chauffeured to the Sunday service. Her hubby made the trek himself.
