South Jersey banks and retired as a Vice President Commercial Loan Officer at Newfield National Bank in 2007.She met her husband in Ocean City, NJ in 1976 and they were a team on many fun projects and travel adventures for 40 years. After retiring she divided her time between Newfield, Ocean City, New Jersey, their home in Sarasota, FL and their summer cottage on Lake Waneta, located in the Finger Lakes Region of NY. Barbara's amazing dinners, baking, constant hospitality and entertaining were renown. Barbara's grandchildren were a great joy in her life. Attending their concerts, taking them to the beach and the lake and just spending time together was the most special time for her.Barbara enjoyed the out of doors: camping, kayaking, gardening and many vigorous outdoor activities. She was known for her garlic and rhubarb gardens, and her rhubarb pies sold out first at bake sales. She was an active church member wherever she lived. Volunteer work that involved physical activity was her favorite such as working on Habitat for Humanity houses, volunteering time in Mississippi following Katrina and sorting clothes and food at pantry's. An avid animal lover, she walked service dogs and when traveling always had her cat by her side.Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Robert A. and Alice Johnson Powrie. Jun 22, 2016Former Upper Township school board president remembered
Sunday, June 12.
Zoerb, of Marmora, served on the Upper Township Board of Education for 10 years and was a voting representative on the Ocean City Board of Education. She became a field service representative with the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) in 2008.
Upper Township Superintendent Vincent Palmieri said Zoerb was school board president when he became superintendent. He said she was a great advocate for kids on both sides of the bridge, and a terrific person to her friends and family.
“She will be sincerely missed, however, never forgotten,” he said.
Zoerb was the field service representative for the NJSBA serving school boards in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties. She also served two districts in Ocean County, Little Egg Harbor Township and Pinelands Regional, as well as two in Gloucester County, East Greenwich and Kingsway.
She “strived every day to make a difference for children,” according to a NJSBA press release.
“Everyone who knew Charlene found her to be highly professional and, above all else, a wonderful and caring person,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, NJSBA executive director. “Her passing is a loss to the New Jersey School Boards Association, her co-workers and the local boards of education who she served in an exempla... As Ocean City's Springfest celebrates the season on Mother's Day weekend, now is the time to plan the garden. (Photo: Gannett file photo)
Help her plant a garden
With the onset of the first few days of warm weather, the impulse to get out in the garden can be hard to resist. However, it is usually best to wait until the threat of frost has passed.
Ernie DeAngelis, manager at Sunshine Tomato in Rehoboth Beach, says the ideal time to plant is Mother's Day weekend.
Located on Coastal Highway, Sunshine Tomato offers a variety of tropical flowers like hibiscus and hydrangeas, as well as traditional annuals like marigolds, geraniums and roses. The center also offers mixed containers and hanging baskets for quick gift ideas.
If you can't spend the day gardening with mom, you can always send her a plant — it'll be a gift that will remind her of your thoughtfulness, long past her day of celebration.

Splurge at the local farmers market
Maybe you've skipped over a fancy cheese or a costly cut of tenderloin during your regular grocery store trips. Well, Mother's Day is the perfect opportunity to splurge on these types of items, and source them locally.
On some level, it will still be cheaper than a restaurant. Check out magazines like "Every Day with Rachel Ray" to figure out which items pair best with others. You will have an impressive spread and mom will appreciate the effort and creativity you put together.
