Via Abriola Parkview Funeral HomeRosemary A. DeCarlo, age 65, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Ludlowe Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Fairfield. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 26, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Louis A. DeCarlo and Mary Palo DeCarlo and was a longtime resident of Brooklyn before she moved to Connecticut last summer. Before her retirement Rosemary was a legal secretary for many years at Sullivan and Cromwell in New York City. She is survived by her beloved sister, Denise Mortati and her husband Joseph of Trumbull and a cherished niece, Kathryn Mortati, and many cousins. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Mausoleum at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery Expands Into Former Essex Flowers Space

The Lower East Side gallery’s space, at 54 Ludlow Street, had previously been somewhat cramped. With Essex Flowers decamping from its tiny home next door, at 54.5 Ludlow Street, Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery was able to take over that space, and will now be able to host “multiple shows and larger exhibitions,” it said. (Essex Flowers moved to Chinatown in June.) The gallery also stated that David Bers Architecture, which designed Isaac Mizrahi’s home in Greenwich Village, helped oversee the expansion. The gallery will now be 1,300 square feet, 750 square feet of which will be devoted to exhibition space. Klaus will open its newly expanded space on September 9 with a show of new work by David Scanavino. This will be the third time Scanavino has had a show at Klaus von Nichtssagend since it was in Williamsburg, where the gallery was located from its founding in 2004 to early 2011. (ARTnews)

A blooming business brings blossoms

On Friday, Paul Kempkes will play at Ludlowville Park by the falls beginning at 6:30. “Dr. K” is a solo guitarist and vocalist with attitude, performing songs by Steely Dan, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp and The Ramones. Essex Flowers to Blossom in Chinatown With Relocation to Monroe Street

Lower East Side flower shop on Grand Street before moving around the corner to Ludlow Street late last year, will uproot itself from the block entirely next month by moving to Monroe Street in Chinatown. “We needed more room!” Essex Flowers associate Kendra Jayne Patrick said in an email to ARTnews. The new location is a 700-square-foot space at 19 Monroe Street, in what used to be the offices of a small construction company, near the shadows of the Manhattan Bridge, between Catherine and Market Streets. That puts it within spitting distance of a few other galleries in this Chinatown corridor that flanks the Lower East Side, including 55 Gansevoort spin-off 56 Henry and the relocated Foxy Production. (It’s also, as Patrick points out, just a few blocks from the bar Mr. Fong’s, which is pretty popular as a post-opening drinking spot.) The final show at the old space—which has for the past few months lived at the quirky address of 54.5 Ludlow Street—is also the first show at the new space, and it’s set to be a doozy. Springfield Museums feature living art in Festival of Flowers

This year, the Venetian Ball theme will incorporate masks worn by the models with a variety of flowers ranging from delphiniums and calla lilies to birds of paradise, succulents, spray roses and more. Besides admiring the flowers and the models, there will be plenty of activities to do in all of the museums, as well as signature cocktails to try. Guests can wander through the museums and see Peter Soule, of Durocher Florists, working on a floral arrangement demonstration. Erick Hirsh, of Big Y, will be creating pastry flowers. The Log Cabin will be serving up rosewater shooters with a variety of edible flowers. There will be a hands-on art project for guests to try, a DJ, an acoustic guitarist playing live music, a watercolor artist, an origami floral arrangement on display and much more. Moss Garden Design of Springfield will sell bouquets from a small flower cart Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. "We are encouraging people to roam through all of the museums and see all of the incredible pieces created by florists and designers who are all from Western Massachusetts," Murray said. Culture & Cocktails is a 21-and-over event and tends to sell out, so anyone interested in purchasing tickets should contact the museums. Tickets are $5 for museum members and $15 for non-members. Admission to the museums is free if you are a city resident, but the fee for the event is still applicable.
