Anita Cote 1929 - 2020 - Obituary - Legacy.com
In 1989, the economy changed so Anita sold the business and moved on to another life-long interest, sewing. In the 1990's she worked at Beverly Fabrics making display items for the store. The sewing area was located on the second floor overlooking Main Street in Ventura. She enjoyed watching the daily activity and parades downtown. In 1996 she thought it would be fun to manage a Salvation Army Thrift Store and she did that for 6 years. After the Salvation Army, she worked one more year for a Title company and retired in 2004. Over the next 15 years Anita made almost 2,000 items to sell at the Senior Craft Shoppe located in downtown Ventura. She loved to sew, knit, and crochet so the shop gave her a creative outlet and she enjoyed meeting new people at the shop. Anita is survived by her daughter, Christine Cote Ring, of Ventura and one grandson, Benjamin Cote, of Bakersfield. Anita was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Cote. She was the youngest of 6 children and they also all predecease her. Due to COVID-19 regulations and restriction, a private funeral service will be held for family members only. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in her honor to the Ventura County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 2186 Knoll Drive #A, Ventura, CA 93003. Anita was entrusted to the care of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main Street, Ventura, 805-643-8623.

Storied Houston Hotel Adds its Own Showcase Flower Shop — Inside The Houstonian's New Floral Studio Wonderland - PaperCity Magazine
Tribute, the hotel’s full-size restaurant. We can’t help be recall the floral extravaganzas of the Four Seasons George V in Paris, the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills and London’s Claridge’s where renowned floral design house McQueens has an on-site boutique. Flowers for an outdoor wedding at The Houstonian are created by Sage ‘n’ Bloom at The Houstonian. (Courtesy photo)Sage ‘n’ Bloom quietly opened in May and has provided flowers for several weddings. But with the COVID-19 situation, Houstonian waited until this past week to launch its official grand opening. With that, glorious bouquets were sent across Houston to a handful of influencers. The one that arrived at my home was delicious in its design reminiscent of an English Garden with roses, ranunculus, Canterbury bells, delphiniums and more. With blossoms sourced from around the world and from local merchants, the menu of possibilities ranges from show-stopping grand arrangements to mini floral confections perfect for a coffee table or accent piece. In addition to providing floral arrangements for a variety of occasions and customers, Sage ‘n’ Bloom offers floral design workshops where guests work along side Du for an afternoon of instruction in the flower-decked studio.Du’s background is rooted in art and design. She has worked with celebrity clientele, corporate gatherings and destination events.Sage ‘n’ Bloom provides free delivery within three miles of The Houstonian with purchases of more than $150. Garden a pleasant surprise in Beverly Hills' back yard - Hometown Life
Francoise Wilhelm.“It is magnificent. It is like living in a tree house. Who would think you are in the heart of Beverly Hills?” says Toni Grinnan. The deck is built around a huge elm tree, one of the few elms which survived Dutch Elm disease.Sounds of birds singing enhanced the experience. Eileen Hitz discovered the sound of a cardinal singing on her cell phone. Now she plays the sound while on her deck and cardinals begin arriving and answering the call. Many animals call the area home. “We have an overweight woodchuck who burrows under the deck, numerous chipmunks, deer, hawks and a coyote,” explains Eileen Hitz. There is a Nature Trail Center sign on steps beside the deck. It marks the beginning of a 500-foot journey down steps and over boardwalks constructed by Neil Hitz which lead through the woods to the Rouge River. There is a deck on the side of the river. “I ought to be able to come here, sit down and relax, but I always look around and see things needing attention,” he says somewhat sadly. The river is shallow there as it meanders toward other small tributaries. Some neighbors enjoy kayaking.Near the deck is a tree house which Hitz built when his sons were young. They enjoyed camping there. One of the garden club members, Pam Signorelli, was especially interested in a small shrub called a button bush adjacent to the deck. This plant is native to Michigan. The sphere-like flowers have nectar which attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The river is shallow. “It is like being Up North. The river is wide. The shore birds can stand in the water,” notes Laura Miller.Across the river is an area called Hidden Rivers, which is a nature preserve. It has an interesting history, remaining undeveloped and having plant specimens typical of 200 years ago.In 1979 Hitz and 28 neighbors and other interested parties contributed over $100,000 to the Village of Beverly Hills to purchase this 14-acre property to keep it in its natural state with no possibility of future development. In a letter to all of the donors dated 1980, the village officers stated: “We believe that leaving this property in its natural state, with no future possibility of undesirable development, is a definite asset to Beverly Hills. The interest and initiative you all have shown in your community is ... Dec 18, 2019
