Combining coffee and flowers, Blaze glad she did

Louisiana” coffee,” she said. “They like it.” Jolie Fleur also has regular customers.   Brothers Walter and Fernand DeGravelle of New Iberia sat at the table and sipped coffee with friend Robert McJimsey of New Iberia. “I come with my brother (who was a stroke victim). He likes to come and get coffee. It’s an outing for him,” Walter DeGravelle said. “We like it. That’s why we come. We like the atmosphere. I guess that’s mainly the reason we come. The coffee’s really good.” DeGravelle also said he appreciates the homey atmosphere and the absence of booths that would make it feel more impersonal. “You know, it’s a friendly place. You feel good here. We sit and we talk and we joke,” McJimsey said. “This kind of also has a New Orleans atmosphere. I’m glad this place held on with all of the downturn they’ve had.” Blaze said she has felt the impact of the turbulent economy  She said that people are ordering fewer flowers because they need the money to pay bills. “‘Just because’ and birthdays (flower orders) are the last things on their list,” she said.   Blaze is passionate about the orders she does receive. “I try to personalize my layouts. I always try to send out something I would like to receive,” she said. “I like to work out of the box. I’m not old school.” Gwen Breaux of New Iberia works part time at Jolie Fleur as a floral designer. “I’ve worked in floral before. It’s a whole different game working in here,” Breaux said. “It’s nice. It’s very relaxed. It’s very comfortable.” “I think that we have a wonderful, award-winning downtown,” said Mike Tarantino, president and CEO of the Iberia Industrial Development Foundation. “There’s a diversity of businesses, and Jolie Fleur is a great example of that. It’s just a great place for people to meet.” “Starting any business is a challenge,” Blaze said.  “I give my glory and graces to God every day. It’s because of Him that I’m where I’m at.” ...
